Inspection Procedure 12: Heater does not work at all, heater does not work quickly.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector
  • Limitation due to main battery remaining capacity
  • Insufficient volume of Engine coolant
  • Malfunction of the air mixing damper
  • Malfunction of the heater controller assembly (A/C-ECU)
  • Malfunction of heater water pump assembly
  • Malfunction of heater water valve assembly
  • The clean air filter clogged

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Check the clean air filter.
Is the clean air filter clogged?
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Replace the clean air filter. Refer to .

STEP 2. Check the engine coolant level.
Check that the coolant level in the condenser tank is between "F" and "L".
Is the engine coolant level correct?
Go to Step 3.
Adjust the engine coolant level (Refer to GROUP 14A - On-vehicle Service, Engine coolant change ).

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the heater controller assembly (A/C-ECU) DTC is set.
Check if DTC B1115 is set in the heater controller assembly (A/C-ECU).
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the electric motor switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the electric motor switch from OFF position to ON position.
(3) Check if DTC is set.
(4) Turn the electric motor switch to the OFF position.
Is the DTC set?
Carry out the DTC procedures (Refer to ).
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the electric heater (electric heater-ECU) DTC is set.
Check whether the electric heater (electric heater-ECU) related DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Diagnose the electric heater (electric heater-ECU) (Refer to diagnostic trouble code chart <electric heater (electric heater-ECU)> ).
Go to Step 5

STEP 5. The heater controller assembly (A/C-ECU) using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check special function or data list.
Perform the following special function (Refer to ) or data list (Refer to ).
Special function
TEST
  • Item 1: Electric heater test
Data list
  • Item 32: Electric heater test result
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
: Go to Step 7.

STEP 6. Check again that the heater works normally.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Refer to Inspection Procedure 6: A/C outlet air temperature cannot be set .

STEP 7. Check the high-voltage connector and wiring harness.
dangerCarry out the check on the high-voltage circuit while reading carefully the precautions on handling a high-voltage vehicle (Refer to GROUP 54Da - Precautions on how to use the high-voltage vehicle ).
dangerWear the specified protection equipment during the check.
1. Shut down the high voltage (Refer to GROUP 00 - Precautions before Service - Precautions on handling high-voltage vehicle ).
2. Check the following terminal (bolt).
  • High-voltage terminal (bolt) for the electric heater
3. Visually check the high-voltage wiring harnesses for damage.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
: Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 8. Check the heater water valve assembly.
Check the heater water valve assembly (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 9.
Replace the heater water valve assembly (Refer to ).

STEP 9. Check again that the heater works normally.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
Replace the electric heater (Refer to ).
