Inspection Procedure 6: Normal charging does not start when the charger is connected to the domestic power supply. [EV charger light (charging indicator) does not illuminate in green.]

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the normal charging does not start and the EV charger light (charging indicator) does not illuminate in green when the charger is connected to the domestic power supply, the malfunction of the EV home & quick charger cable, normal charging cable, EV charger light (charging indicator) system or PHEV-ECU is suspected.
noteWhen the charge connector is connected in the timer charging waiting status, the EV charger light (charging indicator) illuminates in blue.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
  • Malfunction of the EV home & quick charger cable
  • Malfunction of the normal charging cable
  • Malfunction of the EV charger light (charging indicator)
  • Malfunction of the PHEV-ECU
  • Open circuit and short to power supply circuit of the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter circuit, and damage in the circuit or loose connector contact.
  • Open circuit of the normal charging high-voltage system, or loose connector contact
  • MAlfunction of the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter
  • 12V battery is flat.
noteThe trouble may occur due to the following factors.
• In the timer charging waiting status
• Malfunction of the external power supply equipment
• Low ambient temperature

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
Check that the AC power supply (power supply side) is normal in advance, then perform the diagnosis procedures.
dangerWhen servicing the high-voltage system parts, always shut off the high-voltage by removing the service plug (Refer to PRECAUTIONS ON HOW TO USE THE HIGH-VOLTAGE VEHICLE).
dangerBe sure to wear the specified protective equipment when removing the service plug. (Refer to PRECAUTIONS ON HOW TO USE THE HIGH-VOLTAGE VEHICLE).
1.Check of the 12V battery
Check the 12V battery (Refer to Power Supply, Ground & Circuit Elements - Battery Inspection Work Flow).
Is the check result normal?
Replace the 12V battery (Refer to Removal and Installation).

2.Lighting check of the EV charger light (charging indiator)
Check whether the EV charger light (charging indicator) illuminates in white when the EV charger lid is opened.
Is the check result normal?
Perform the PHEV-ECU symptom procedure No. 6 "The EV charger light (charging indicator) does not illuminate normally." (Refer to The EV charger light (charging indicator) does not illuminate normally.) .

3.Check indicator on control box of normal charging cable.
Check the indicator on the control box of the normal charging cable (Refer to TROUBLE SYMPTOM CHART).
Is the check result normal?
Perform the corrective action according to the control box indicator.

4.Check of the normal charging cable.
Check the normal charging cable (Refer to CHARGING CABLE CHECK).
Is the check result normal?
Replace the normal charging cable.

5.Visually check of the normal charge port
Check that there is no looseness on the normal charge port terminals, and water drain hole is not clogged.
Is the check result normal?
Repair the faulty part.

6.M.U.T.-IIISE other system data list
Check the following PHEV-ECU data list.
  • Item No. 1630: OBC connecting signal
OK: Release Off (while the normal charge connector is connected)
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).

7.Check of open circuit in NCCP line between the PHEV-ECU and normal charge port
Is the check result normal?
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness, or replace the EV home & quick charger cable.

8.Retest the system.
Does the trouble symptom persist?
Replace the PHEV-ECU (Refer to PHEV-ECU REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).
