Inspection Procedure 6: The EV charger light (charging indicator) does not illuminate normally.
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When the EV charger light (charging indicator) does not illuminate normally, the EV charger light (charging indicator) power supply circuit or PHEV-ECU is suspected.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
Malfunction of the EV charger light (charging indicator) power supply circuit (faulty connector, faulty IGCT control relay, blown fuse)
Damaged wiring harness and connectors
Malfunction of the PHEV-ECU
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
MB991223: Wiring harness set
MB992006: Extra fine probe
1.M.U.T.-IIISE data list
Check the following PHEV-ECU data list.
Item No. 530: Charge port Lid open/close Status signal
Check condition
Normal condition
When the EV charger lid is opened
ON
Other than above
OFF
Is the check result normal?
Carry out the PHEV-ECU input signal procedure No. 6 "EV charger lid open sensor system" (Refer to EV charger lid open sensor system).
2.Voltage measurement at EV charger light (charging indicator) connector (power supply terminal)
(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to ON (READY indicator: OFF).
(3) Measure the voltage between the EV charger light (charging indicator) connector (power supply terminal) and body ground.
OK: Battery voltage
Is the check result normal?
3.M.U.T.-IIISE communication check
Using M.U.T.-IIISE, check that the communication with the On Board Charger (OBC) is possible.
Is the check result normal?
Diagnose the CAN bus line of the On Board Charger (OBC) (Refer to CAN Fundamental - Trouble Diagnosis Flow Chart Trouble Diagnosis Flow Chart).
4.Check of open circuit in power supply line between EV charger light (charging indicator) and fuse block (IGCT control relay)
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
5.Check of short to ground circuit and open circuit in signal line between PHEV-ECU and EV charger light (charging indicator)
Check the following lines for short to ground circuit and open circuit.
CSI1 line
CSI2 line
CHPL line
Is the check result normal?
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
6.EV charger light (charging indicator) check
Apply the battery voltage to the EV charger light (charging indicator), and check whether the light illuminates.
Connect the battery positive terminal to the EV charger light (charging indicator) connector (power supply terminal), and connect the battery negative terminal to the EV charger light (charging indicator) connector (CSI1 terminal).
OK: The EV charger light (charging indicator) illuminates in red when the battery voltage is applied.
Connect the battery positive terminal to the EV charger light (charging indicator) connector (power supply terminal), and connect the battery negative terminal to the EV charger light (charging indicator) connector (CSI2 terminal).
OK: The EV charger light (charging indicator) illuminates in green when the battery voltage is applied.
Connect the battery positive terminal to the EV charger light (charging indicator) connector (power supply terminal), and connect the battery negative terminal to the EV charger light (charging indicator) connector (CHPL terminal).
OK: The EV charger light (charging indicator) illuminates in blue when the battery voltage is applied.
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).
