Inspection Procedure 9: Charging does not Start, or the Charging Indicator is not Illuminated when the Charger is Connected to Domestic Power Supply.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
  • The cause is assumed to be low environment temperature at charging.
noteWhen the charging timer of the MITSUBISHI remote control system is turned ON, the normal charging cannot be started. It is, however, not a failure.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Open circuit or harness damage in normal charging signal circuit or loose connector contact.
  • Malfunction of the charging cable
  • Open circuits of on board charger/DC-DC converter circuit, short circuits to ground, short circuits to power supply system or damage; poor contact of connector.
  • Open circuit in normal charging high voltage system circuit or loose connector contact.
  • The on board charger is failed.
  • The 12V starter battery dies.
  • The ambient temperature is low.

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
dangerWhen high voltage system components are serviced, be sure to pull service plugs to shut down high voltage (Refer to ).
dangerWhen pulling service plugs, wear the specified protective equipment (Refer to ).
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check BMU data list.
  • Data List Reference Table (Refer to GROUP 54Dc - Data List ).
    1. Item 10: Module minimum temperature
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Replace the charging cable.

STEP 2. Check ambient temperature during the battery charging.
Does the ambient temperature measure -25°C (-13°F) or more?
: Go to Step 3.
: Go to Step 4.
Charge the battery when the ambient temperature is -25°C (-13°F) or more.

STEP 3. Check the charging timer.
  • During normal charging
Is the charging timer turned ON?
Turn OFF the charging timer.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check the charging circuit interrupting device of the EV charging cable (normal charger).
  • During normal charging
Is the FAULT indicator illuminated or does it blink?
Inspection procedure: FAULT indicator is lit (Refer to ), Inspection Procedure: FAULT indicator blinks (Refer to ).
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Check the POWER and CHARGING indicators.
Do the POWER and CHARGING indicators illuminate?
Go to Step 6.
Refer to Inspection Procedures "Although normal charging is possible, POWER indicator and CHARGING indicator are not lit" and "POWER indicator is not lit (normal charging is impossible" .

STEP 6. Check charging cable itself
  • Check charging cable (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Replace the charging cable.

STEP 7: Check the normal charging connector.
  • Check the terminal for excessive play.
  • Check for the drain hole for clogging.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Repair.

STEP 8. Check the charging indicator.
  • Check that the charging lamp blinks in the combination meter when the charging cable is connected, also check that the charging indicator is illuminated when the charging starts.
Is the check result normal?
Check the AC power supply usage conditions used by the users.
Go to Step 9.

STEP 9. Check the trouble symptom
  • Check inspection procedure 14: The charging indicator does not flash (electric motor switch is set to ON).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 10.
Repair.

STEP 10. Check of open circuit in COLD line and HOT line between normal charging connector and on board charger/DC-DC converter connector.
dangerWhen high voltage system components are served, be sure to pull service plugs to shut down high voltage before serving (Refer to ).
dangerWhen pulling service plugs, wear the specified protective equipment (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 11.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 11. Check of open circuit and damage in PLT line between normal charging connector and on board charger/DC-DC converter connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 12.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 12. Check the trouble symptom
  • After replacing the on board charger/DC-DC converter, the malfunction phenomenon reoccurs or not.
Does the trouble symptom persist?
Replace the on board charger/DC-DC converter.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
