DTC C2336 Shift position not determined

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

OPERATION
The BSW-ECU (master) communicates with the TCM via the gateway-ECU and CAN bus lines.

CHECK CONDITION
Ignition switch is in the ON position.

DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION AND TROUBLE JUDGMENT
When the BSW-ECU (master) receives an invalid selector lever position signal from the TCM for at least 1.5 seconds, the ECU sets DTC C2336.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The transmission system fails
  • Malfunction of BSW-ECU (master)

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the other system DTC.
Check if DTC P0705 is set in the TCM.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch from the LOCK (OFF) position to the ON position.
(3) Check if the DTC is set in the TCM.
Is the DTC set?
: Troubleshoot the CVT (Refer to GROUP 23A - Diagnosis <CVT>, Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart ).
: Troubleshoot the A/T (Refer to GROUP 23C - Diagnosis <A/T>, Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart ).
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), check other system data list.
(1)
  • Check the input signal in the TCM (Refer to GROUP 23A - Diagnosis <CVT>, Data List Reference Table <CVT> or refer to GROUP 23C - Diagnosis <A/T>, Data List Reference Table ) <A/T>).
  • The selector lever is at P range <CVT>

Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
: Troubleshoot the DTC P0705 (Malfunction of Transmission Range Switch) (Refer to GROUP 23A - Diagnosis <CVT>, Diagnostic Trouble Code Procedures ).
: Troubleshoot DTC P0705 (Transmission Range Switch System) (Refer to GROUP 23C - Diagnosis <A/T>, Diagnostic Trouble Code Procedures ).

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the BSW-ECU (master) DTC again.
Check again if the DTC is set in the BSW-ECU (master).
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from the LOCK (OFF) position to the ON position.
(3) Check if the DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the BSW-ECU (master).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
