DTC U0230: Power Gate CAN timeout
 
 
caution
  • If DTC No. U0230 is set in the multivision display, diagnose the CAN main bus line.
  • Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the communication circuit is normal.
noteWhen the DTCs relating to the CAN communication error are set, make sure of the vehicle equipment. When the vehicle is not equipped with the system the multivision display communicates to, the DTC is always set. This is not abnormal.
 
 
 
 
TROUBLE JUDGMENT
The multivision display receives signal from the power liftgate control unit via CAN bus lines. If it cannot receive all the necessary signals from the power liftgate control unit, DTC No. U0230 is set.
 
 
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
Current trouble
  • Connector(s) or wiring harness in the CAN bus lines between the power liftgate control unit and the multivision display, the power supply system to the power liftgate control unit, the power liftgate control unit itself, or the multivision display may be defective.
Past trouble
  • Carry out diagnosis with particular emphasis on connector(s) or wiring harness in the CAN bus lines between the power liftgate control unit and the multivision display, and the power supply system to the power liftgate control unit. For diagnosis procedures, refer to "How to cope with past trouble" (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points ).
    noteFor a past trouble, you may not find it by the scan tool (M.U.T.-III) CAN bus diagnostics even if there is any failure in CAN bus lines. In this case, refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points . and check the CAN bus lines. You can narrow down the possible cause of the trouble by referring to the DTC, which is set regarding the CAN communication-linked ECUs (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN Bus Line Diagnostic Flow ).
 
 
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The power liftgate control unit may be defective
  • The multivision display may be defective
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), diagnose the CAN bus line.

cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus lines. (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ). Repair the CAN bus line and go to Step 4.
 
STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the power liftgate diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set in the power liftgate.
Is the DTC set?
Diagnose the electric liftgate troubleshooting (Refer to GROUP 42A - Troubleshooting ).
Go to Step 3.
 
STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the combination meter diagnostic trouble code.
Check if DTC No. U0230 is set in combination meter.
Is the DTC set?
Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 5.
 
STEP 4. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set in the multivision display.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to "ON" position.
(3) On completion, check that the DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace power liftgate control unit and then go to Step 6.
A poor connection, open circuit or other intermittent malfunction is present in the CAN bus lines between the power liftgate control unit and the multivision display (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
 
STEP 5. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set in the multivision display.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to "ON" position.
(3) On completion, check that the DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace multivision display (Refer to ) and then go to Step 6.
A poor connection, open circuit or other intermittent malfunction is present in the CAN bus lines between the power liftgate control unit and the multivision display (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
 
STEP 6. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set in the multivision display.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to "ON" position.
(3) On completion, check that the DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Go to Step 1.
The procedure is complete.
