DTC C1707: Implausible coding data

caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect DTC may be set. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ).
  • Whenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.
  • When DTC No.C1707 is set in ASC-ECU, the DTC may also be set in ETACS-ECU. When the DTC is set in ETACS-ECU, carry out the diagnosis of the DTC for ETACS-ECU first.

OPERATION
ASC-ECU receives the vehicle information stored in the ETACS-ECU via CAN bus lines.

DTC SET CONDITIONS
When received invalid coding data from the ETACS-ECU, this DTC is set.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of ETACS-ECU
  • ETACS-ECUs have been interchanged between two vehicles.
  • ASC-ECU malfunction
  • ASC-ECUs have been interchanged between two vehicles.
  • Malfunction of ETACS-ECU coding data
  • Engine Control Module malfunction

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) CAN bus diagnostics
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ). On completion, go to Step 2.

STEP 2. DTC recheck after resetting CAN bus lines
Is DTC No.C1707 set?
Go to Step 3.
This diagnosis is complete.

STEP 3. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) other system DTC
Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III) to check whether any coding-related DTC is set in ETACS-ECU or engine control module.
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot for the relevant DTC.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check part number of ASC-ECU
Check the part number of ASC-ECU.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the hydraulic unit (integrated with ASC-ECU) (Refer to ). Then go to Step 9.

STEP 5. ETACS-ECU coding data check
Refer to GROUP 00 - Coding List .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Replace the ETACS-ECU (Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS-ECU ).

STEP 6. Check part number of ETACS-ECU
Check the part number of ETACS-ECU.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Replace the ETACS-ECU (Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS-ECU ).

STEP 7. Engine control module coding data check
Refer to GROUP 00 - Coding List .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Replace the engine ECU (Refer to GROUP 13A - Engine Control Module <2.4L ENGINE>, GROUP 13B - Engine Control Module <3.0L ENGINE>, and then go to Step 8.

STEP 8. Check whether the DTC is set again.
Erase the DTC.
Is DTC No.C1707 set?
Replace the hydraulic unit (integrated with ASC-ECU) (Refer to ). Then go to Step 9.
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).

STEP 9. Check whether the DTC is set again.
Erase the DTC.
Is DTC No.C1707 set?
Return to Step 1.
This diagnosis is complete.
