Removal and Installation
cautionPerform lubricant return operation before each refrigeration system disassembly. However, if a large amount of refrigerant or lubricant leak is detected, never perform lubricant return operation. Refer to Perform Lubricant Return OperationPerform Lubricant Return Operation.
 
 
REMOVAL
 
 
1. Use a refrigerant collecting equipment (for HFO-1234yf) to discharge the refrigerant. Refer to Recycle Refrigerant.
2. Drain engine coolant from cooling system. Refer to Draining.
3. Remove front wiper drive assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation.
4. Disconnect internal heat exchanger pipe from Expansion valve. Refer to Removal and Installation.
5. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core.
6. Remove instrument panel assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation.
7. Remove each duct and nozzle.
8. Disconnect drain hose from heater & cooling unit assembly.
9. Remove main harness from heater & cooling unit assembly and blower unit.
(1) Disconnect A/C amp. harness connectors.
(2) Disconnect front blower motor harness connector.
(3) Disengage harness fixing metal clip of front blower motor harness.

(4) Disengage harness fixing metal clip of each sensor harness.
(5) Disconnect main harness connector from A/C sub harness.
(6) Disengage main harness fixing metal clips , and then remove main harness from blower unit .
10. Disconnect engine harness connectors from PTC harness.

11. Disengage harness fixing clip of engine harness from Heater & cooling unit assembly.
: Vehicle front
12. Remove blower unit mounting bolts .
13. Remove heater & cooling unit assembly mounting bolts .
14. Remove heater & cooling unit assembly fixing screw .
15. Remove harness connector, harness clips and bracket necessary to remove steering member. Move vehicle harness aside.
16. Remove steering column mounting bolts and nuts, and then move steering column assembly to secure work space. Refer to Removal and Installation.
17. Remove mounting nuts , and then remove instrument stay.

18. Remove steering member mounting bolts .
19. Remove steering member from vehicle.
cautionWhen removing steering member, 2 workers are required to prevent it from dropping.
20. Remove heater & cooling unit assembly and blower as a set from vehicle.
cautionWhen removing heater & cooling unit assembly, 2 workers are required to prevent it from dropping.
21. Remove blower unit from heater & cooling unit assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation.
 
 
INSTALLATION
Note the following items, and then install in the reverse order of removal.
caution
  • Replace O-rings with new ones. Then apply compressor oil to them when installing.
  • Check for leakages when recharging refrigerant. Refer to Leak Test.
noteWhen filling radiator with engine coolant. Refer to Refilling.
