INSPECTION PROCEDURE 19: Modes display cannot be switched by using the SPORT mode switch
 
 
 
 
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the modes cannot be switched by operating the SPORT mode switch, the SPORT mode switch, EV switch, SAVE/CHARGE mode switch or the PHEV-ECU is suspected.
 
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of SPORT mode switch
  • Malfunction of EV switch
  • Malfunction of SAVE/CHARGE mode switch
  • Damaged harness or connector
  • Malfunction of the PHEV-ECU
 
 
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the data list. <PHEV-ECU>
Check that the following service data display contents are normal (Refer to ).
  • Item No.102: EV Switch
 
Check conditionNormal condition
The EV switch is pressedON
Other than aboveOFF
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Refer to Inspection Procedure 26: "Modes display cannot be switched by using the EV switch .
 
STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the data list. <PHEV-ECU>
Check that the following service data display contents are normal (Refer to ).
  • Item No.112: SAVE mode/CHARGE mode switch
 
Check conditionNormal condition
The SAVE/CHARGE mode switch is pressed.ON
Other than aboveOFF
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Refer to Inspection Procedure 18: "Modes display cannot be switched by using the SAVE/CHARGE mode switch .
 
STEP 3. SPORT mode switch check.
Check the SPORT mode switch (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the SPORT mode switch (Refer to ).
 
STEP 4. Check of open circuit in the ground line (SPORT mode switch and body ground).
(1) Disconnect the SPORT mode switch connector.
(2) Take the measurements below at the SPORT mode switch wiring harness side connector.
  • Continuity ground terminal between SPORT mode switch wiring harness side connector and body ground.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector or wiring harness.
 
STEP 5. Check of open, and short to ground circuit in the signal line. (PHEV-ECU and the SPORT mode switch).
(1) Take the measurements below at the SPORT mode switch wiring harness side connector.
  • Continuity DYNA terminal between PHEV-ECU wiring harness side connector and body ground.
OK: No continuity
  • Continuity DYNA terminal between PHEV-ECU wiring harness side connector and SPORT mode switch wiring harness side connector.
OK: Continuity (less than 2 Ω)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair the connector or wiring harness.
 
STEP 6. Retest the system.
Check the input signals from the SPORT mode switch.
  • Operate the SPORT mode switch.

Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
