DTC U1073: Bus off (CAN-C-Mid)

caution
  • If DTC No.U1073 is set in the ETACS-ECU, diagnose the CAN bus (CAN-C-Mid) lines.
  • Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.
  • When the ETACS-ECU of vehicles without KOS is replaced, the encrypted code of the ignition key needs to be registered to the ETACS-ECU. (If the encrypted code is not registered, the engine cannot be started. Register the encrypted code as described in Immobilizer System - How to Register Key ID .)

TROUBLE JUDGMENT
If the ETACS-ECU detects a bus off error (CAN-C-Mid), DTC No. U1073 will be set.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
The ETACS-ECU or its CAN bus (CAN-C-Mid) lines may be defective.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The ETACS-ECU may be defective
  • The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), diagnose the CAN bus line.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Diagnosis ). On completion, go to Step 3.

STEP 2. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set in the ETACS-ECU.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position.
(3) On completion, check that the DTC is set again.
Is the DTC set?
Refer to GROUP 54C, Diagnosis Item 9 "Communication with no ECUs is possible (CAN-C-Mid)" , and Then go to Step 3.
If the trouble is solved, it is determined that there is an intermittent malfunction such as poor engaged connector(s) or open circuit (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).

STEP 3. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Recheck if the DTC is set in the ETACS-ECU.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position.
(3) Check if the DTC is set again.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the ETACS-ECU, and Then go to Step 1.
The procedure is complete.
