DTC B2206: VIN error/Mismatch

caution
  • If DTC No. B2206 is set, always diagnose the CAN bus line.
  • Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.
  • When the ETACS-ECU of vehicles without KOS is replaced, the encrypted code of the ignition key needs to be registered to the ETACS-ECU. (If the encrypted code is not registered, the engine cannot be started. Register the encrypted code as described in Immobilizer System - How to Register Key ID .)

TROUBLE JUDGMENT
If the chassis number which is stored in the ETACS-ECU does not correspond to that which is stored in the engine control module (ECM), DTC No.B2206 will be set.

JUDGMENT CRITERIA
If the chassis number which is stored in the ETACS-ECU does not correspond to that which is stored in the ECM, the ETACS-ECU will determine that the system is defective.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Chassis number not written
  • The ETACS-ECU may be defective
  • The ECM may be defective

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), diagnose the CAN bus line.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Diagnosis ). On completion, go to Step 3.

STEP 2. Check the chassis numbers which have been stored in the ECM.
Check whether the chassis numbers which have been stored in the ECM correspond to the actual chassis number written on the vehicle document.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Troubleshoot the engine (Refer to GROUP 13A - DTC Chart <2.4 L ENGINE>, GROUP 13B - DTC Chart <3.0 L ENGINE>)

STEP 3. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set in the ETACS-ECU.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position.
(3) Check if DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace with the coded ETACS-ECU.
The diagnosis is complete.
