Inspection Procedure 8: Fuel gauge does not work (the other meters work).

cautionBefore replacing the combination meter, be sure to check that the power supply circuit, ground circuit, and communication circuit are normal.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If only the fuel gauge does not operate, the fuel pump module, the fuel level sensor (sub) <AWD> or the combination meter may be defective.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The fuel pump module may be defective.
  • The fuel level sensor (sub) may be defective. <AWD>
  • The combination meter may be defective.

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the combination meter diagnostic trouble code.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position.
(3) Check if DTC No. B1201 is stored.
Is DTC No. B1201 stored?
Follow the relevant DTC procedure (Refer to ).
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Fuel pump module and fuel level sensor (sub) <AWD> check
Check the fuel pump module and fuel level sensor (sub) <AWD>. Refer to .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the fuel pump module and fuel level sensor (sub) <AWD>.

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), check data list
  • Item 89: Fuel gauge (Refer to ).
  • Item 8A: Fuel gauge(Target) (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the combination meter, and then go to Step 5.

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), check actuator test
  • Item 3: Fuel gauge (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the combination meter, and then go to Step 5

STEP 5. Retest the system.
Check that the fuel gauge works normally.
Is the check result normal?
The procedure is complete. (If no malfunctions are found in all steps, an intermittent malfunction is suspected. Refer to GROUP 00 / How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the combination meter.
