Inspection Procedure 13: Vehicle power does not turn "ON" (Not possible with both of power supply mode "ACC" and "ON").

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When the vehicle power does not turn "ON" (not possible with both of power supply mode "ACC" and "ON"), the battery, engine switch, CAN bus line, KOS&OSS-ECU, KOS&OSS-ECU power supply, or ground circuit may have a problem.
noteKOS&OSS-ECU can communicate with the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) even when the engine switch is in the "OFF" position.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of battery
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
  • Malfunction of engine switch (poor connector contact, poor engine switch contact)
  • Malfunction of the CAN bus line
  • Malfunction of KOS&OSS-ECU
  • Malfunction of the keyless operation key battery

DIAGNOSIS
notePrior to diagnosis, read "Troubleshooting procedure when vehicle power does not turn ON" .
STEP 1. Battery check
Perform the battery test to check the battery status (Refer to GROUP 54A - Battery - Battery test ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Replace the battery (Refer to GROUP 54A - Battery ).

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line
Use the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Diagnosis ).

STEP 3. Check that the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) communicates with this system
Check that the communication with scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) is possible.
(1) Turn on and off any of the door switches several times, or open any of the doors.
(2) Check that KOS&OSS-ECU can communicate with the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Carry out the troubleshooting of KOS&OSS-ECU power supply or ground circuit malfunction (Refer to ).

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the DTC.
Check if the DTC is set in the KOS&OSS-ECU.
Is the DTC set?
Refer to diagnostic trouble code chart .
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Engine switch check
Continuity check of engine switch (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Replace the engine switch (Refer to ).

STEP 6. Keyless operation key battery charged level check
Check whether the LED illuminates when the lock/unlock switch on the keyless operation key is pressed.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Replace the battery in the keyless operation key.

STEP 7. Customized contents check
Use the customization function to check the setting contents of "F.A.S.T. feature" (Refer to ).
noteIf the customized contents do not satisfy your intention, customize the system again.
Which content is selected?
: Go to Step 8.
: Go to Step 10.

STEP 8. Check of the troubles
Check the condition of the keyless operation key when the vehicle power does not turn "ON."
What kinds of circumstances cause the vehicle power supply to remain off?
: Go to Step 9.
: Go to Step 10.

STEP 9. Keyless operation system communication test
Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), perform the antenna communication test to check that the keyless operation antenna (Inner side) communicates normally (Refer to ).
  • Front antenna(indoor)
  • Rear antenna(indoor)
OK: Normal values are displayed for all the items
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 13.
Go to Step 10.

STEP 10. Check with another registered keyless operation key.
Check whether the power supply mode can be switched by another registered keyless operation key.
Can the power supply mode be switched?
: Go to Step 11.
: Go to Step 13.

STEP 11. Keyless operation key check
Check whether the registered keyless operation key is used.
Is the registered keyless operation key used?
: Register the key ID of the keyless operation key. Then go to Step 12.
: Refer to the key ID registration procedure manual to register the key ID. If the key ID cannot be registered, replace the keyless operation key and register the key ID.

STEP 12. Check of the troubles
Check that the vehicle power can be turned "ON."
Is the check result normal?
This diagnosis is complete.
Go to Step 13.

STEP 13. Check of the troubles
Remove commercial electric appliances if they are attached on. Check that the vehicle power can be turned "ON."
Is the check result normal?
Aggravation of radio wave condition caused by commercial electric products or intermittent malfunction is suspected (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Go to Step 14.

STEP 14. Check of the troubles
Check that the vehicle power can be turned "ON" or the indicator of engine switch in amber, green.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 15.
Replace the KOS&OSS-ECU and register the chassis number (Refer to ).

STEP 15. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the DTC.
Check if the DTC is set in the KOS&OSS-ECU.
Is the DTC set?
Refer to diagnostic trouble code chart .
This diagnosis is complete.
