TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
  • Malfunction of the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter (DC-DC converter)
  • Malfunction of the electric water pump (abnormal voltage, fail pump, overcurrent, locked pump, futile rotation)
  • Malfunction of the EV water cooling system (insufficient motor coolant, leakage, frozen pipe, clogged or broken pipe)
  • Malfunction of the PHEV-ECU
  • 24V battery is accidentally connected.

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
1.M.U.T.-IIISE other DTC
Check whether the PHEV-ECU sets the following DTCs.
  • DTC No. P0A8D-00 Low voltage of auxiliary battery fault
  • DTC No. P0A8E-00 High voltage of auxiliary battery fault
Are the DTCs set?
Troubleshoot the set DTCs (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART). Then,

2.Check of continuity at electric water pump connector (ground terminal)
(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Check the continuity between the electric water pump connector (ground terminal) and body ground.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
Is the check result normal?
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness in ground line between the electric water pump and body ground. Then,

3.Check of open circuit in power supply line between electric water pump and relay box (water/oil pump relay)
Is the check result normal?
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness. Then,

4.EV water cooling system check
Carry out the following symptom procedure.
  • Item No. 5: EV system overheat (water cooling system)
Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the faulty part. Then,

5.Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
(1) Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern. Refer to OBD-II Drive Cycle OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE.
(2) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the electric water pump (Refer to WATER PUMP REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION), Then go to .
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).

6.Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
(1) Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern. Refer to OBD-II Drive Cycle OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE.
(2) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the PHEV-ECU (Refer to PHEV-ECU REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION), Then go to .
The procedure is complete.

7.Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
(1) Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern. Refer to OBD-II Drive Cycle OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE.
(2) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Check the EV water cooling system for clogging. Determine the clogged part and repair it. Then,
The procedure is complete.

8.Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
(1) Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern. Refer to OBD-II Drive Cycle OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE.
(2) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Retry the troubleshooting.
The procedure is complete.
