DTC P3101-15: PHEV Wake-up Circuit Shorted-High/Open

CIRCUIT OPERATION
The PHEV-ECU activation signal is input to the ECM connector terminal number 119 from the PHEV-ECU connector terminal number 34.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The ECM checks whether the PHEV-ECU has been activated normally by the PHEV-ECU activation signal.

DTC SET CONDITION
Check Condition
  • Power supply mode of electric motor switch: ON
  • 12V battery positive voltage is between 10.0 and 16.5 volts.
  • It is not refuel control mode.
  • The PHEV-ECU activation circuit is diagnosed for 10 seconds after the power supply mode of the electric motor switch is changed to ON.
Judgment Criterion
  • The communication error between the ECM and PHEV-ECU is detected.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
Indicates "REFUELING SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" on the information screen in the multi-information display.

OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
None.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are:)
  • PHEV-ECU failed.
  • Open circuit, short circuit or damage in PHEV-ECU activation circuit or loose connector contact.
  • ECM failed.

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
1.STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE), read the other system DTC.
Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to check and see if a DTC is set in the PHEV-ECU (Refer to ELECTRIC POWER TRAIN, PHEV-ECU – Troubleshooting – Diagnosis Function DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION).
Q: Is any DTC set in the PHEV-ECU?
Perform troubleshooting of PHEV-ECU system (Refer to ELECTRIC POWER TRAIN, PHEV-ECU – Troubleshooting – Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART).

2.STEP 2. Check harness between PHEV-ECU connector terminal number 34 and ECM connector terminal number 119.
Check signal line for short to power supply circuit, open circuit or damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

3.STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE), DTC recheck after erasing DTC.
After erasing the DTC, check again to see if the DTC is set again.
(1) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to erase the DTC.
(2) Turn OFF the power supply mode of the electric motor switch.
(3) Turn ON the power supply mode of the electric motor switch.
(4) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to recheck the DTC.
Q: Is DTC P3101-15 set?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION, General Information – How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points – How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).
