DTC P24BE-00: EVAP Leak Detection Pump Vacuum Switching Valve Circuit Low
 
 
 
 
CIRCUIT OPERATION
  • Switching valve is built into the Evaporative Leak Check Module (ELCM).
  • MFI relay is built into the IPDM E/R.
  • The switching valve power is supplied from the MFI relay.
  • The ECM controls switching valve by turning the power transistor in the ECM "ON" and "OFF".
 
 
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
In response to a signal from the ECM, the switching valve switches the atmospheric side path of the evaporative emission canister to the reference path for the evaporative emission system leak monitor.

DTC SET CONDITIONS

Check Conditions
  • Power supply mode of electric motor switch is ON.
  • 12V battery positive voltage is between 10.0 and 16.5 volts.
Judgment Criterion
  • The supply voltage is 3 volts or lower without the switching valve driving for 2 seconds.
 
 
FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
  • Prohibit introduction of purges.
  • Fuel filler lid cannot be opened even when pressing the fuel filler lid opener switch.
  • Indicates "REFUELING SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" on the information screen in the multi-information display.
 
 
OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
Refer to Diagnostic Function, OBD-II Drive Cycle – Pattern 1 OBD- II DRIVE CYCLE.
 
 
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are:)
  • Switching valve (built into the ELCM) failed.
  • Open or shorted switching valve circuit, harness damage or connector damage.
  • ECM failed.
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
1.STEP 1. Voltage measurement at ELCM connector terminal number 8.
(1) Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
(2) Power supply mode of electric motor switch: ON
(3) Measure the voltage between the ELCM connector terminal number 8 and ground.
OK: 12V battery positive voltage
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or check and repair the wiring harness between the IPDM E/R connector terminal number 78 and ELCM connector terminal number 8.
  • Check power supply line for open/short circuit.
 
2.STEP 2. Voltage measurement at ECM connector terminal number 80.
(1) Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
(2) Ground the ECM connector terminal number 95) to the ground.
(3) Measure the voltage between the ECM connector terminal number 80 and ground.
OK: 12V battery positive voltage
Q: Is the check result normal?
 
3.STEP 3. Check of short to ground circuit and open circuit in wiring harness between ELCM connector terminal number 4 and ECM connector terminal number 80.
Q: Is the check result normal?
Replace the ELCM (Refer to ENGINE, Engine, Motor and Emission Control – Emission Control – Evaporative Emission System EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CANISTER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION). Then
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.
 
4.STEP 4. Check damage in wiring harness between ELCM connector terminal number 4 and ECM connector terminal number 80.
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.
 
5.DTEP 5. Check of damage in wiring harness between IPDM E/R (with built-in MFI relay) connector terminal number 78 and ELCM connector terminal number 8.
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.
 
6.STEP 6. Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
After erasing the DTC, carry out test drive with the drive cycle pattern, and recheck the DTC.
(1) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to erase the DTC.
(2) Carry out test drive with the drive cycle pattern (Refer to Diagnostic Function, OBD-II Drive Cycle – Pattern 1 OBD- II DRIVE CYCLE).
(3) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to recheck the DTC.
Q: Is DTC P24BE-00 set?
Replace the ELCM (Refer to ENGINE, Engine, Motor and Emission Control – Emission Control – Evaporative Emission System EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CANISTER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION). Then
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION, General Information – How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points – How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).
 
7.STEP 7. Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
After erasing the DTC, carry out test drive with the drive cycle pattern, and recheck the DTC.
(1) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to erase the DTC.
(2) Carry out test drive with the drive cycle pattern (Refer to Diagnostic Function, OBD-II Drive Cycle – Pattern 1 OBD- II DRIVE CYCLE).
(3) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to recheck the DTC.
