DTC P04BA-00: Fuel Fill Door Position Sensor/Switch Circuit High

CIRCUIT OPERATION
  • The ECM connector terminal number 85 sends a current of electricity to the fuel filler lid lock sensor connector terminal number 4.
  • The fuel filler lid lock sensor turns ON if the fuel filler lid is open and turns OFF if the fuel filler lid is closed.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The ECM monitors the opening and closing status of the fuel filler lid by changing the voltage accompanying the turning ON and OFF of the fuel filler lid lock sensor.

DTC SET CONDITIONS
Check Conditions
  • Power supply mode of electric motor switch is ON.
  • 12V battery positive voltage is between 10.0 and 16.5 volts.
Judgment Criterion
  • Fuel filler lid lock sensor terminal voltage is equal to the 12V battery positive voltage for 2 seconds.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
Indicates "REFUELING SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" on the information screen in the multi-information display.

OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
None.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are:)
  • Fuel filler lid lock sensor failed.
  • Shorted fuel filler lid lock sensor circuit, harness damage or loose connector contact.
  • ECM failed.
note
  • When fuel filler lid is opened by fuel filler lid opener relay ON, the DTC may be set if movement of the fuel filler lid lock release actuator or the fuel filler lid is disturbed by hand etc.
  • When the refuel control mode cannot be cancelled even if fuel filler lid is closed*, it can be cancelled the refuel control mode by performing the following operations.
*: The related refuel indication on the combination meter does not disappear, the fuel tank solenoid valve does not turn off, or the power of the ECM does not turn off even if the fuel filler lid is closed.
    1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE), "Forced Refuel control completion" from special function screen is executed.
    2. 30 minutes passed after the item execution.
    3. Drive the vehicle continuously for approximately 30 seconds.

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
1.STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE), check the data list.
Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to check the data list (Refer to DATA LIST REFERENCE TABLE).
  • Item number 870: Fuel Fill Door Position Sensor Voltage
Q: Is the check result normal?

2.STEP 2. Check fuel filler lid lock sensor itself.
Check fuel filler lid lock sensor itself (Refer to BODY EXTERIOR, DOORS, ROOF & VEHICLE SECURITY – Door & Lock, Removal and Installation, Fuel filler Lid, Fuel Filler Lid Inspection FUEL FILLER LID INSPECTION).
Q: Is the check result normal?
Replace the fuel filler lid lock sensor (Refer to BODY EXTERIOR, DOORS, ROOF & VEHICLE SECURITY – Door & Lock, Removal and Installation, Fuel filler Lid REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION).

3.STEP 3. Check harness between fuel filler lid lock sensor connector terminal number 4 and ECM connector terminal number 85.
Check power supply line for short circuit and damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

4.STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE), DTC recheck after erasing DTC.
After erasing the DTC, check again to see if the DTC is set again.
(1) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to erase the DTC.
(2) Turn OFF the power supply mode of the electric motor switch.
(3) Turn ON the power supply mode of the electric motor switch.
(4) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to recheck the DTC.
Q: Is DTC P04BA-00 set?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION, General Information – How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points – How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).
