DTC P0010-00: Oil feeder control valve system

CIRCUIT OPERATION
  • MFI relay is built into the IPDM E/R.
  • Power is supplied to the oil feeder control valve connector terminal from the MFI relay connector terminal.
  • The ECM connector terminal number 9 makes the power transistor in the unit be in ON position, and that makes currents go on the oil feeder control valve connector terminal.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The oil feeder control valve changes the phase angle to operate the MIVEC system in the advance or the retard side in accordance with signals from the ECM.

DESCRIPTIONS OF MONITOR METHODS
Oil feeder control valve circuit current is out of the specified range.

MONITOR EXECUTION
Continuous.

MONITOR EXECUTION CONDITIONS (Other monitor and Sensor)
Other Monitor (There is no temporary DTC set in memory for the item monitored below)
  • Not applicable
Sensor (The sensor below is determined to be normal)
  • Camshaft position sensor
  • Crankshaft position sensor
  • Engine coolant temperature sensor
  • Throttle position sensor
  • Oil feeder control valve

DTC SET CONDITIONS
Logic Flow Chart
Check Conditions
  • Power supply mode of electric motor switch is ON.
  • 12V battery positive voltage is between 10 and 16.5 volts.
  • ON duty cycle of the oil feeder control valve circuit is higher than 20 percent.
Judgment Criterion
  • The ECM terminal current of oil feeder control valve circuit is lower than 0.1 ampere for 2 seconds.
Check Conditions
  • Power supply mode of electric motor switch is ON.
  • 12V battery positive voltage is between 10 and 16.5 volts.
Judgment Criterion
  • The ECM terminal current of oil feeder control valve circuit is higher than 2.9 amperes for 0.03 second.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
V.V.T. phase angle becomes most retarded angle.

OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
Refer to Diagnostic Function, OBD-II Drive Cycle – Pattern 5 OBD- II DRIVE CYCLE.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are:)
  • Oil feeder control valve failed.
  • Open or shorted oil feeder control valve circuit, harness damage or connector damage.
  • ECM failed.

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
1.STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), perform the actuator test.
Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to perform the actuator test (Refer to ACTUATOR TEST REFERENCE TABLE).
  • Item number 60: Oil feeder control valve
OK: When the valve is actuated, operating noise is audible.
Q: Is the check result normal?

2.STEP 2. Check oil feeder control valve itself.
Check oil feeder control valve itself (Refer to ENGINE OIL CONTROL VALVE CHECK).
Q: Is the check result normal?
Replace the oil feeder control valve (Refer to ENGINE, Engine Mechanical – Camshaft CAMSHAFT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION).

3.STEP 3. Perform voltage measurement at oil feeder control valve connector terminal number 2.
  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Power supply mode of electric motor switch: ON
  • Voltage between oil feeder control valve connector terminal number 2 and ground.
OK: 12V battery positive voltage
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or check and repair harness between IPDM E/R connector terminal number 66 and oil feeder control valve connector terminal number 2.

4.STEP 4. Perform voltage measurement at ECM connector terminal number 9.
  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Power supply mode of electric motor switch: ON
  • Voltage between ECM connector terminal number 9 and ground.
OK: 12V battery positive voltage
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or check and repair harness between oil feeder control valve connector terminal number 1 and ECM connector terminal number 9.

5.STEP 5. Check harness between IPDM E/R connector terminal number 66 and oil feeder control valve connector terminal number 2.
Check power supply line for damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

6.STEP 6. Check harness between oil feeder control valve connector terminal number 1 and ECM connector terminal number 9.
Check output line for damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

7.STEP 7. Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
After erasing the DTC, carry out test drive with the drive cycle pattern, and recheck the DTC.
(1) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to erase the DTC.
(2) Carry out test drive with the drive cycle pattern (Refer to Diagnostic Function, OBD-II Drive Cycle – Pattern 5 OBD- II DRIVE CYCLE).
