DTC P1168: Inverter gate driver fails

  • When servicing the high voltage system parts, always shut off the high voltage by removing the service plug (Refer to ).
  • When servicing the high voltage system parts, always wear the protective equipment or armor to measure the high voltage (Refer to ).

DTC SET CONDITIONS

Check Conditions
  • The IGBT status of power drive unit (GCU) is on (Active).
Judgment Criterion
  • IGBT driver power supply voltage less than 12 volts occurs 3 times within 60 seconds.
  • A voltage excess of 0.7 volts between the collector and the emitter occurs 3 times within 60 seconds.

Check Conditions
  • Power drive unit (GCU) power supply voltage is 8 volts to 16 volts.
  • The IGBT status of power drive unit (GCU) is off (Shutdown).
Judgment Criterion
  • IGBT driver power supply voltage is less than 12 volts for 0.5 seconds.
  • The voltage between the collector and the emitter is exceeded by 0.7 volts for 0.5 seconds.
 
 
OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
  • Refer to Diagnostic Function - OBD-II Drive Cycle - Pattern 4 .
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of the power drive unit [generator control unit (GCU)]
  • Malfunction of the generator high-voltage terminal
  • Malfunction of the generator
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Check the high-voltage terminal.
dangerCarry out the check on the high-voltage circuit while reading carefully the precautions on handling a high-voltage vehicle (Refer to ).
dangerWear the specified protection equipment during the check.
(1) Shut down the high voltage (Refer to ).
(2) Check that the following cable is tightened to the specified torque.
  • Generator cable connection (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Replace the power drive unit (Refer to ). Then go to Step 2.
Tighten the generator cable to the specified torque (Refer to ). Then go to Step 3.
 
STEP 2. Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
(1) Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern. Refer to Diagnostic Function - OBD-II Drive Cycle - Pattern 4 .
(2) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the generator (Refer to ). Then go to Step 3.
The inspection is complete.
 
STEP 3. Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
(1) Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern. Refer to Diagnostic Function - OBD-II Drive Cycle - Pattern 4 .
(2) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Retry the troubleshooting.
The inspection is complete.
