DTC P1164: Inverter temperature sensor fails (range)

DESCRIPTIONS OF MONITOR METHODS
  • Temperature is measured inside of a capacitor and on a circuit board containing the GCU and FEMCU.
  • The two temperatures measured inside of the front drive unit are compared to each other after a minimum one hour soak.

MONITOR EXECUTION
  • Once per driving cycle

MONITOR EXECUTION CONDITIONS (Other monitor and Sensor)
Other Monitor (There is no temporary DTC stored in memory for the item monitored below)
  • Non-volatile random access memory monitor
  • EV CAN monitor
  • Battery energy control module (sub BMU) monitor
Sensor (The sensor below is determined to be normal)
  • Drive motor capacitor temperature sensor
  • Drive motor control module temperature sensor

DTC SET CONDITIONS
Logic Flow Chart
Check Conditions
  • Power drive unit (FEMCU) power supply voltage is 8 volts to 16 volts.
  • Time after above conditions satisfy is less than 1.5 seconds.
  • The soaking time is more than 3,600 seconds.
  • The IGBT status of power drive unit (FEMCU) is off (Shutdown).
Judgment Criterion
  • The absolute value of the difference between the value of control module temperature and capacitor temperature remains 18°C (64°F) or more in 0.8 seconds.

OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
  • Refer to Diagnostic Function - OBD-II Drive Cycle - Pattern 6 .

PROBABLE CAUSES
Malfunction of the power drive unit (FEMCU)

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
(1) Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern. Refer to Diagnostic Function - OBD-II Drive Cycle - Pattern 6 .
(2) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the power drive unit (Refer to ). Then go to Step 2.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).

STEP 2. Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
(1) Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern. Refer to Diagnostic Function - OBD-II Drive Cycle - Pattern 6 .
(2) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Retry the troubleshooting.
The inspection is complete.
