DTC P1088: Motor coil temperature sensor fails (range)

DESCRIPTIONS OF MONITOR METHODS
  • Rear drive motor coil temperature is monitored by rear drive motor control module.
  • Coil U-phase temperature and coil W-phase temperature are compared to each other after IGBT status off (shutdown) and a minimum one hour soak.

MONITOR EXECUTION
  • Once per driving cycle

MONITOR EXECUTION CONDITIONS (Other monitor and Sensor)
Other Monitor (There is no temporary DTC stored in memory for the item monitored below)
  • Non-volatile random access memory monitor
  • EV CAN monitor
  • Battery energy control module (sub BMU) monitor
Sensor (The sensor below is determined to be normal)
  • Not applicable

DTC SET CONDITIONS
Logic Flow Chart
Check Conditions
  • REMCU power supply voltage is 8 volts to 16 volts.
  • Time after above conditions satisfy is less than 1.5 seconds.
  • The soaking time is more than 3,600 seconds.
  • The IGBT status of REMCU is off (Shutdown).
Judgment Criterion
  • The absolute value of the difference between the value of U-phase coil temperature and W-phase coil temperature remains 13°C (55°F) or more in 0.8 seconds.

OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
  • Refer to Diagnostic Function - OBD-II Drive Cycle - Pattern 6 .

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • The temperature sensor circuit fails
  • Malfunction of the Rear motor/rear transaxle assembly
  • Malfunction of the REMCU

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set.
Check if the DTC P1036 is set in the REMCU.
Is the DTC set?
Carry out troubleshooting for the DTC P1036 (Refer to ). Then go to Step 3.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Check the resistance in the coil temperature sensor.
(1) Disconnect the REMCU connector.
(2) Check the conduction of the harness between the REMCU and the rear motor/rear transaxle assembly and measure the resistance value of the coil temperature sensor (U-phase and W-phase) in the REMCU connector terminals.

Terminal symbolNormal
TH1 to TG1 (U-phase)
  • Approx. 65kΩ to 90kΩ at -20°C (-4°F)
  • Approx. 25kΩ to 35kΩ at 0°C (32°F)
  • Approx. 12kΩ to 15kΩ at 20°C (68°F)
  • Approx. 5kΩ to 7kΩ at 40°C (104°F)
TH2 to TG2 (W-phase)
Is the check result normal?
Replace the REMCU (Refer to ). Then go to Step 3.
Replace the wiring harness (TH1 line, TG1 line, TH2 line, TG2 line) and the rear motor/rear transaxle assembly (Refer to ). Then go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Test the OBD-II drive cycle.
(1) Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern. Refer to Diagnostic Function - OBD-II Drive Cycle - Pattern 6 .
(2) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Retry the troubleshooting.
The inspection is complete.
