INSPECTION PROCEDURE 24: Energy regeneration ratio cannot be changed by using the regenerative braking level selector (paddle type)

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When the energy regeneration level (B0 to B5) does not change by operating the regenerative braking level selector (paddle type), the regenerative braking level selector (paddle type) or the PHEV-ECU is suspected.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • The regenerative braking level selector (paddle type) fails
  • Damaged harness or connector
  • Malfunction of the PHEV-ECU

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the data list. <PHEV-ECU>
Check that the following service data display contents are normal (Refer to ).
  • Item No.94: Paddle switch (+)

Check conditionNormal condition
The paddle lever (+) is pulled towards you with the power supply mode of the electric motor switch turned on.ON
The paddle lever (+) is NOT pulled towards you with the power supply mode of the electric motor switch turned on.OFF
  • Item No.95: Paddle switch (-)

Check conditionNormal condition
The paddle lever (-) is pulled towards you with the power supply mode of the electric motor switch turned on.ON
The paddle lever (-) is NOT pulled towards you with the power supply mode of the electric motor switch turned on.OFF
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. regenerative braking level selector (paddle type) check
Refer to GROUP 22A - Regenerative Braking Level Selector (paddle type) Check .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the regenerative braking level selector (paddle type) (Refer to GROUP 37 - Steering Column Shaft Assembly ).

STEP 3. Check of short to ground, and open circuit in the signal line [PHEV-ECU and the regenerative braking level selector (paddle type)].
Check the wiring harness between PHEV-ECU connector (terminal PD+, PD-) and the regenerative braking level selector (paddle type) connector (terminal No.3, 1).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector or wiring harness.

STEP 4. Check of open circuit in the ground line (regenerative braking level selector (paddle type) and body ground).
Check the wiring harness between regenerative braking level selector (paddle type) connector (terminal No.2) and the ground connector (terminal No.1).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector or wiring harness.

STEP 5. Retest the system.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the PHEV-ECU (Refer to ).
