DTC U0230: Power Gate CAN timeout

caution
  • If DTC No. U0230 is set, be sure to diagnose the CAN bus line.
  • Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
When the EV remote-ECU receives no signal from the power liftgate control unit for 2.5 seconds or more, it will set DTC No. U0230.

DTC SET CONDITION
  • The power supply mode of the electric motor switch is ON.
  • When the EV remote-ECU receives on signal from the power liftgate control unit for 2.5 seconds or more.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The CAN bus line may be defective
  • The power liftgate control unit may be defective
  • Power supply circuit to power liftgate control unit defective
  • The EV remote-ECU may be defective

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn off the power supply mode of the electric motor switch before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Press the electric motor switch to turn on the power supply mode.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Press the electric motor switch to turn off the power supply mode.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ).

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the power liftgate control unit DTC.
Check if DTC is set in the power liftgate control unit.
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot the power liftgate control system (Refer to GROUP 42A - Troubleshooting ).
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the other system DTC.
Check if a DTC, which relates to CAN communication-linked systems below, is set.
  • ETACS-ECU
    • DTC No.U0230: Power Gate CAN timeout
Is the DTC set?
Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 5.

STEP 4. Recheck for DTC.
Check again if the DTC is set in the EV remote-ECU.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Press the electric motor switch to turn the power supply mode from "OFF" to "ON."
(3) Check if DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the power liftgate control unit (Refer to GROUP 42A - liftgate handle and latch ).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction such as a poor connection or open circuit in the CAN bus lines between the power liftgate control unit and the EV remote-ECU (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

STEP 5. Recheck for DTC.
Check again if the DTC is set in the EV remote-ECU.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Press the electric motor switch to turn the power supply mode from "OFF" to "ON."
(3) Check if DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the EV remote-ECU (Refer to ).
