Inspection Procedure 5: The speedometer does not work (the other meters work).

cautionBefore replacing the combination meter, be sure to check that the power supply circuit, ground circuit, and communication circuit are normal.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If only the speedometer does not operate, the ASC and combination meter may have a problem.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The ASC-ECU may be defective
  • The combination meter may be defective
  • The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn off the power supply mode of the electric motor switch before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Press the electric motor switch to turn on the power supply mode.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Press the electric motor switch to turn off the power supply mode.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C, Diagnosis ).

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the DTC.
Check if DTC is set in the combination meter.
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot the combination meter. Refer to .
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the other system DTC.
Check if DTC is set in the ASC.
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot the ASC. Refer to GROUP 35C - Troubleshooting .
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check data list.
Check the vehicle speed signal data list of ASC.
Item No.88: Vehicle speed (Refer to GROUP 35C - Data list reference table .)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Diagnose ASC (Refer to GROUP 35C - Troubleshooting ). After diagnosing the ASC.

STEP 5. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), perform actuator test.
(1) Press the electric motor switch to turn on the power supply mode.
(2) Conduct the actuator test of the combination meter.
  • Item No.1: Speedometer (Refer to .)
OK: The speedometer shows that simulated vehicle speed.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Replace combination meter.

STEP 6. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), perform Special Function.
  • Item No.4: Pointer (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Replace the combination meter.

STEP 7. Retest the system.
Check that the speedometer works normally.
Is the check result normal?
The procedure is complete. (If no malfunctions are found in all steps, an intermittent malfunction is suspected. Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the combination meter.
