Inspection Procedure A-13: Power liftgate becomes as door-ajar.

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
With the power liftgate, when the door-ajar status is reached before the closing of liftgate, the easy closer system is activated, and the liftgate is fully closed automatically. If an abnormality is present to the easy closer system, check the switches. When no abnormality is present to the switches, check the use method of liftgate. (When the liftgate lock release handle is operated manually, and if the liftgate is left as is without being opened, a door-ajar status may occur. Therefore, be sure not to leave the liftgate in the middle of operation.)

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of the liftgate lock release handle
  • Door-ajar switch system failed
  • Neutral latch switch system failed
  • Half latch switch system failed
  • Full latch switch system malfunction
  • Liftgate sensor malfunction
  • Incorrect operation of liftgate lock release handle

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1.Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the diagnostic trouble code.
(1) Operate the power liftgate.
(2) Check whether a diagnostic trouble code is set in the power liftgate control unit.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Refer to diagnostic trouble code chart .

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check data list.
Check the signals related to the power liftgate operation.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to OFF.
(3) Check the ETACS data list.

Is the check result normal?
: When the liftgate lock release handle is operated manually, and if the liftgate is left as is without being opened, a door-ajar status may occur. Therefore, be sure not to leave the liftgate in the middle of operation. Go to Step 3.
: Refer to Inspection Procedure B-3 "Liftgate lock release handle signal is not received" .
: Refer to Inspection Procedure B-6 "Half latch switch and/or full latch switch signals are not received" .
: Refer to Inspection Procedure B-4 "Door-ajar switch signal is not received" .
: Refer to Inspection Procedure B-5 "Neutral switch signal is not received" .
: Refer to Inspection Procedure B-7 "Liftgate sensor signal is not received" .

STEP 3. Check of the troubles
Check whether the power liftgate works normally.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction .)
Replace the power liftgate control unit.
