REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
 
 
Pre-removal Operation
  • Engine Room Under Cover Front A, B and Engine Room Side Cover (RH) Removal (Refer to GROUP 51 - Under Cover ).
Post-installation Operation
  • Water Pump Drive Belt Tension Check (Refer to ).
  • Engine Room Under Cover Front A, B and Engine Room Side Cover (RH) Installation (Refer to GROUP 51 - Under Cover ).
Removal steps

•Brake electric vacuum pump assembly (Refer to GROUP 35A - Brake Electric Vacuum Pump ).
•Engine roll stopper rod assembly (Refer to GROUP 32 - Engine Roll Stopper Rod ).
•Engine mounting bracket (Refer to GROUP 32 - Engine Mounting ).

REMOVAL SERVICE POINTS
 
 
<<A>> WATER PUMP DRIVE BELT REMOVAL
1.
caution
  • To reuse the water pump drive belt, draw an arrow indicating the rotating direction on the back of the belt using chalk to install the same direction.
  • Hang the special tool MB992276 on the vehicle components (including front sidemembers) using a cord and paper clip to prevent from falling.
Set special tool MB992276 as shown and hold it by hand.

cautionBe careful that the finger holding the special tool MB992276 is not pinched.
Slightly turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the special tool MB992276 is pinched and held between the water pump pulley and the water pump drive belt.
3. If the special tool MB992276 is held, move the finger off.
4.
cautionIf the water pump drive belt is detached, be careful that the special tool MB992276 is also detached and fallen.
Slowly turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the water pump drive belt goes around on the special tool MB992276 and is detached.
5. Remove the water pump drive belt.
 

 
 
<<B>> CRANKSHAFT PULLEY CENTER BOLT/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY WASHER/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REMOVAL
1.
cautionUse only the specified special tools, or a damaged pulley damper could result.
Use the special tools MB990767 and MD998719 to support the crankshaft pulley.
2. Loosen the crankshaft pulley center bolt and remove the crankshaft pulley washer and crankshaft pulley.
 
 
 
 
INSTALLATION SERVICE POINTS
 
 
>>A<< CRANKSHAFT PULLEY/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY WASHER/CRANKSHAFT PULLEY CENTER BOLT INSTALLATION
1. Wipe off the dirt on the crankshaft sprocket, crankshaft and crankshaft pulley as shown in the figure using a rag, and then degrease the areas.
noteDegrease them to prevent drop in the friction coefficient of the pressed area which is caused by oil adhesion.
2. Install the crankshaft pulley.
3. Wipe off the dirt on the crankshaft pulley washer and the crankshaft pulley center bolt as shown in the figure using a rag.
4. Apply an adequate and minimum amount of engine oil to the thread of the crankshaft pulley center bolt and the lower area of the flange.
5. Use the special tools MB990767 and MD998719 as during removal to support the crankshaft pulley:
6. Tighten the crankshaft pulley center bolt to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 210 N·m (155 ft-lb)
7. Loosen the crankshaft pulley center bolt fully.
8. Tighten the crankshaft pulley center bolt to the specified torque again.
Tightening torque: 210 N·m (155 ft-lb)
 

 
 
>>B<< WATER PUMP DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION
1.
caution
  • To reuse the water pump drive belt, install it by aligning the arrow mark on the backside of belt marked at the removal with the rotating direction.
  • Check that the notches of the notched pulley and the notches of the drive belt are fit correctly.
Install the water pump drive belt in the water pump pulley.

cautionBe careful that the finger holding the special tool MB992904 is not pinched.
Set the special tool MB992904 and water pump drive belt in the crankshaft pulley and hold it by a finger as shown.
note
  • Check that the top surface of water pump drive belt goes around on the special tool MB992904, and the water pump drive belt is fitted in the notched under the crankshaft pulley securely as shown.
  • Slightly turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the special tool MB992904 is pinched and held between the crankshaft pulley and the water pump drive belt as shown.
3. If the special tool MB992904 is held, move the finger off.

cautionIf the water pump drive belt is installed, be careful that the special tool MB992904 is detached and fallen.
Slowly turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise and install the water pump drive belt.
5. Turn the crankshaft pulley until the special tool MB992904 is detached from the crankshaft pulley.
6. Turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise on several times and check that the water pump drive belt is installed in the water pump pulley and the crankshaft pulley securely.
