cautionBefore replacing the combination meter, be sure to check that the power supply circuit, ground circuit, and communication circuit are normal.
 
 
 
 
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If the parking reminder tone alarm does not sound or the brake warning light does not come on at a speed above 8 km/h (5 mph) with the parking brake switch ON <Lever type parking brake>, the parking brake switch input circuit <Electric parking brake>, the vehicle speed signal circuit, the combination meter, the wiring harness or its connector may be defective.
 
 
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The vehicle speed signal circuit may be defective <AWD>
  • The parking brake switch may be defective <Lever type parking brake>
  • The electric parking brake ECU may be defective <Electric parking brake>
  • The combination meter may be defective
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB991223: Harness Set
  • MB992006: Extra Fine Probe
STEP 1. Check the speedometer.
Check that the speedometer in the combination meter operates normally.
Is the check result normal?
: Go to Step 2.
: Go to Step 4.
Troubleshoot the combination meter. Refer to .
 
STEP 2. Check the parking brake switch.
Refer to GROUP 36 - On-vehicle Service, Parking Brake Switch Check .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the parking brake switch.
 
STEP 3. Check of short to power supply circuit in BRK line between combination meter connector and parking brake switch connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
 
STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the other system DTC is set.
Check if DTC is set in the electric parking brake ECU.

cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot the electric parking brake. Refer to GROUP 36 - Troubleshooting .
Go to Step 5.
 
STEP 5. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check special function.
Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), select "Test" from the special function of the combination meter. Execute the following item to check the liquid crystal display.
  • Item 8: Tone alarm (AUTO)
  • Item 9: Indicator (AUTO)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Replace the combination meter.
 
STEP 6. Retest the system.
Check that combination meter illumination function should work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The procedure is complete. (If no malfunctions are found in all steps, an intermittent malfunction is suspected. Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the combination meter.
