Inspection Procedure 8: Fuel gauge does not work (the other meters work).

cautionBefore replacing the combination meter, be sure to check that the power supply circuit, ground circuit, and communication circuit are normal.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If only the fuel gauge does not operate, the fuel pump and gauge unit (main), the fuel gauge unit (sub) <AWD> or the combination meter may be defective.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The fuel pump and gauge unit (main) may be defective
  • The fuel gauge unit (sub) may be defective <AWD>
  • The combination meter may be defective

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set.
Check if DTC B1201 is set.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Check the DTC.
Is DTC B1201 set?
Perform the troubleshooting of when the DTC is set (Refer to ).
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Fuel pump and gauge unit (main) and fuel gauge unit (sub) <AWD> check
Check the fuel pump and gauge unit (main) and fuel gauge unit (sub) <AWD>. Refer to .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the fuel pump and gauge unit (main) and fuel gauge unit (sub) <AWD>.

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check data list.
  • Item 3: Fuel gauge (Refer to ).
  • Item 4: Fuel gauge(Target) (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the combination meter.

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check actuator test.
  • Item 3: Fuel gauge (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the combination meter.

STEP 5. Retest the system.
Check that combination meter illumination function should work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The procedure is complete. (If no malfunctions are found in all steps, an intermittent malfunction is suspected. Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the combination meter.
