DTC C1616: Cranking Signal System (Stuck ON)

caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect DTC may be set. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines.
  • Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.

OPERATION
AWC-ECU receives the signal of the ignition switch from ETACS-ECU via CAN communication.

DTC SET CONDITIONS
This DTC is set when the cranking signal is continued for the specified time during driving.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
  • Malfunction of the ignition switch
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
  • Malfunction of AWC-ECU

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
STEP 1. Scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) CAN bus diagnostics.
Use scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) to perform the CAN bus diagnosis.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - Diagnosis, Can Bus Diagnostics Table ).

STEP 2. Scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) other system DTC.
  • Check the KOS DTC (Refer to GROUP 42B - Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart ) <Vehicles with KOS>.
  • Check the ETACS DTC (Refer to GROUP 54A - Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart ).

Check the following data list (Refer to ).
  • Item No.47: Ignition status
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Ignition switch check
(1) Disconnect ignition switch connector, and check the continuity between the power supply and start signal at the ignition switch side.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
OK: No continuity
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the ignition switch (Refer to GROUP 54A - Ignition Switch ).

STEP 5. Check of short circuit in start signal line between ignition switch connector and ETACS-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair the defective connector or the wiring harness.

STEP 6. Scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) other system data list.
Check the data list of the ETACS (Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS ).
  • Item No.110: Starter switch
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Replace the ETACS-ECU (Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS-ECU ).

STEP 7. Check whether the DTC is set again.
Is the DTC C1616 set?
Replace the AWC-ECU (Refer to ).
