THE FUEL FILLER LID GETS LOCKED, BUT “READY TO REFUEL” IS DISPLAYED ON THE WARNING SCREEN.

COMMENTS REGARDING FAULT PHENOMENA

If the user forgets to close the fuel filler lid after refueling, "Close the filler opening" will be displayed on the warning screen when the engine ECU detects that the lid is open. However, in the following cases "Close the filler opening" will be displayed on the warning screen when the engine ECU detects that the fuel filler lid is open, even though the fuel filler lid opener switch has not been pressed.

When the fuel filler lid was opened by operating the fuel filler lid inside release lever.
When the fuel filler lid was unintentionally opened due to a fault in the fuel filler lid related parts.
When the signal from the fuel filler lid lock sensor of the fuel filler lid is always indicating “Open”.
When an 12V battery is connected while the fuel filler lid is open.

PROBABLE CAUSES

The fuel filler lid lock was released by operating the fuel filler lid inside release lever
An 12V battery was connected while the fuel filler lid was open
Faulty installation of the fuel filler lid
Fault in the system (multiport fuel injection (MFI)) associated with the fuel filler lid
Fuel filler lid lock sensor fault or faulty installation
Deformation of the contact surface of the fuel filler lid sensor

1.PERFORM OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE FUEL FILLER LID (SUPPLY CONTROL)

Press the fuel filler lid opener switch.
Check that the fuel filler lid lock is released after the “Refueling preparation is complete” message is displayed.
Close the fuel filler lid that is open.

Was the fuel filler lid opening and closing operation completed properly, and the message “Close the filler opening” no longer displayed on the warning screen?

Inspection completed.

2.CHECK THE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE OF THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-IIISE), ETC.

Check whether the diagnostic trouble code related to the fuel filler lid (P04BA-00 or P04BF-00) is output from the engine ECU.

Is the diagnostic trouble code output?

Perform troubleshooting corresponding to the output diagnostic trouble code (refer to TROUBLESHOOTING - INSPECTION CHART FOR TROUBLE SYMPTOMS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART

). After performing the troubleshooting,

3.CHECK THE SYSTEM SERVICE DATA OF THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-IIISE), ETC.

Check that the following engine system service data is normal (refer to TROUBLESHOOTING - DATA LIST REFERNCE TABLE DATA LIST REFERENCE TABLE

Item No. 870: Filler lid position sensor

Is the inspection result normal?

Inspect the installation condition of the fuel filler lid release actuator, the installation condition of the fuel filler lid lock sensor, the installation condition of the fuel filler lid, and the fuel filler lid lock plate part for deformation, and perform repair or replacement at places where there is a problem. Then, after checking again that Item 870: fuel lid position sensor inspection result is normal,

4.PERFORM OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE FUEL FILLER LID (FUEL SUPPLY CONTROL)

Press the fuel filler lid opener switch.
Check that the fuel filler lid lock is released after the “Refueling preparation is complete” message is displayed.
Close the fuel filler lid that is open.

Was the fuel filler lid opening and closing operation completed properly, and the message “Close the filler opening” no longer displayed on the warning screen?

Inspection completed.

Using the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), execute “Forced termination of fuel supply mode” from the special function screen of the engine system, and check that the “Close the filler opening” message is no longer displayed on the warning screen. If the message does not disappear, replace the engine ECU.
