Inspection Procedure 8: Normal charging time is longer than usual, or charging does not stop.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the normal charging time is longer than usual, or the charging does not stop, the excessive load to the 12V power supply, the rising of the temperature inside the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter, or the malfunction of the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter or normal charging cable is suspected.
noteUse of the extension cable is not allowed, so if the use of the extension cable is confirmed, inform the user not to use it.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The excessive load to 12V power supply (Excessive power use due to electrical components)
  • Malfunction of the normal charging cable
  • Malfunction of the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter
  • The rising of the temperature inside the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter
noteThe trouble may occur due to the following factors.
• Use of an extension cable
• Malfunction of the external power supply.
• The Drive battery is being cooled or heated.
• The ambient temperature is extremely hot or cold.

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
1.Check indicator on control box of normal charging cable.
Check the indicator on the control box of the normal charging cable (Refer to TROUBLE SYMPTOM CHART).
Is the check result normal?
Perform the corrective action according to the control box indicator.

2.Check usage conditon of the electric equipment (12V power supply)
Check whether the electric equipment (12V power supply) is used.
Is the check result normal?
Change the electric equipment power supply to OFF.

3.Check of the normal charging cable.
Check the normal charging cable (Refer to CHARGING CABLE CHECK).
Is the check result normal?
Replace the normal charging cable.

4.M.U.T.-IIISE data list
Check the following On Board Charger (OBC) data list.
Item No.Check conditionNormal condition
Item No. 290: PFC TEMPERATUREDuring normal charging113°C (235°F) or less
Item No. 300: VOLTAGE UP DEPARTMENT TEMPERATURE1During normal charging125°C (257°F) or less
Item No. 310: VOLTAGE UP DEPARTMENT TEMPERATURE2During normal charging
Is the check result normal?
Perform the PHEV-ECU symptom procedure No. 4 "EV system overheating (water cooling system)" (Refer to TROUBLE SYMPTOM CHART) .

5.Check power supply voltage of domestic power supply.
Check that the voltage of the domestic power supply is not lower than the normal value.
OK: 104 to 127 volts (120 V outlet)
Is the check result normal?
Ask the user to inspect the external power supply equipment.

6.Retest the system.
Does the trouble symptom persist?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS) .

7.Retest the system.
Perform normal charging by using the normal charging cable other then the defective one.
Does the trouble symptom persist?
Replace the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter (Refer to ON BOARD CHARGER (OBC) &DC-DC CONVERTER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION).
Replace the normal charging cable.
