Inspection Procedure 5: Normal charging does not start when the charger is connected to the domestic power supply. [EV charger light (charging indicator) flashes in red.]

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the normal charging does not start and the EV charger light (charging indicator) flashes in red when the charger is connected to the domestic power supply, the charging control prohibition due to high voltage system malfunction, or the malfunction of the EV home & quick charger cable, normal charging cable, PHEV-ECU or On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter is suspected.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Charging control prohibition due to high voltage system
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
  • Malfunction of the EV home & quick charger cable
  • Malfunction of the normal charging cable
  • Malfunction of the PHEV-ECU
  • Malfunction of the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter
noteThe trouble may occur due to the following factors.
• Malfunction of the external power supply equipment.
• Normal charge connector is not connected securely.
• The start/stop operation of the high voltage system is repeated in a short period of time.
• Ambient temperature is extremely high or low.

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
1.M.U.T.-IIISE DTC check
(1) Change the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to OFF.
(2) Connect the M.U.T.-IIISE to the data link connector.
(3) Perform normal charging, check whether the trouble symptom persist.
(4) Check whether the On Board Charger (OBC)/DC-DC converter set DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot the set DTCs ( DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART) .

2.Check indicator on control box of normal charging cable.
Check the indicator on the control box of the normal charging cable (Refer to TROUBLE SYMPTOM CHART).
Is the check result normal?
Perform the corrective action according to the control box indicator.

3.Visually check of the normal charge port
Check that there is no looseness on the normal charge port terminals, and water drain hole is not clogged.
Is the check result normal?
Repair the faulty part.

4.Check of the normal charging cable.
Check the normal charging cable (Refer to CHARGING CABLE CHECK).
Is the check result normal?
Replace the normal charging cable.

5.M.U.T.-IIISE other system data list
Check the following PHEV-ECU data list.
  • Item No. 1630: OBC connecting signal
OK: Release Off (while the normal charge connector is connected)
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).

6.Check of open circuit in NCCP line between the PHEV-ECU and normal charge port
Is the check result normal?
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness, or replace the EV home & quick charger cable (Refer to EV HOME & QUICK CHARGER CABLE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION) .

7.Retest the system.
Does the trouble symptom persist?
Replace the PHEV-ECU (Refer to PHEV-ECU REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).
