Inspection Procedure 2: The energy regeneration ratio cannot be changed by using the regeneration level selector.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When the energy regeneration level (B0 to B5) cannot be changed by operating the regeneration level selector, the regeneration level selector, BCM or PHEV-ECU is suspected.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
  • Malfunction of the spiral cable
  • Malfunction of the steering wheel (energy regeneration level selector)
  • Malfunction of the BCM
  • Malfunction of the PHEV-ECU

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
  • MB991223: Wiring harness set
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
1.M.U.T.-IIISE other system data list
Check the following BCM data list.
  • Item No. 31: Paddle shift switch (–)
    Check conditionNormal condition
    ON operationON
    Other than aboveOFF
  • Item No. 32: Paddle shift switch (+)
    Check conditionNormal condition
    ON operationON
    Other than aboveOFF
Is the check result normal?

2.Check of continuity at BCM connector
(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Check the continuity between the following terminals.
  • Continuity between the BCM connector (terminal No. 78) and body ground
    Check conditionNormal condition
During ON operation of the energy regeneration level selector (+ side)Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
    Other than aboveNo continuity
  • Continuity between the BCM connector (terminal No. 79) and body ground
    Check conditionNormal condition
During ON operation of the energy regeneration level selector (– side)Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
    Other than aboveNo continuity
Is the check result normal?

3.Check of open circuit in signal line between BCM and spiral cable
Check the open circuit between the following terminals.
  • Open circuit between the BCM connector (terminal No. 78) and spiral cable connector (terminal No. 4)
  • Open circuit between the BCM connector (terminal No. 79) and spiral cable connector (terminal No. 5)
Is the check result normal?
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

4.Check of continuity at spiral cable connector (BCM side)
(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Check the continuity between the spiral cable connector (terminal No. 15) and body ground.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
Is the check result normal?
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness in ground line between the spiral cable connector (BCM side) and body ground.

5.Check of continuity at energy regeneration level selector
(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Check the continuity between the following terminals.
  • Continuity between the energy regeneration level selector connector (terminal No. 33) and energy regeneration level selector connector (terminal No. 29)
    Check conditionNormal condition
During ON operation of the energy regeneration level selector (+ side)Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
    Other than aboveNo continuity
  • Continuity between the energy regeneration level selector connector (terminal No. 32) and energy regeneration level selector connector (terminal No. 29)
    Check conditionNormal condition
During ON operation of the energy regeneration level selector (– side)Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
    Other than aboveNo continuity
Is the check result normal?
Replace the spiral cable (Refer to SRS Airbag - Spiral Cable Removal and Installation).
Replace the steering wheel (Refer to Steering System - Steering Wheel Removal and Installation).

6.Retest the system.
Does the trouble symptom persist?
Replace the PHEV-ECU (Refer to PHEV-ECU REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).

7.Retest the system.
Does the trouble symptom persist?
Replace the BCM (Refer to Body Control System - BCM Removal and Installation).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to General Information - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS).
