ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT
Required Special Tool:
warningBe careful, as when removing the radiator cap, there are times when the coolant will be hot and have turned to steam. Put a shop cloth to the cap, slightly turn the cap in the counterclockwise direction and release any pressure. After releasing the steam, slowly turn the cap counterclockwise and remove the cap.

1. Remove the engine room under cover front A, B (Refer to Exterior - under cover removal and installation Removal and Installation).
2. Remove in order the radiator plug assembly and then the radiator cap and then drain coolant from the radiator, heater core, and engine.
3. Drain the water in the water jacket by unplugging the drain plug of the cylinder block.
4. Remove the reservoir tank and drain the coolant.
5. Replace the cylinder block drain plug gasket, and tighten the drain plug to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 42 ± 7 N·m (31 ± 5 ft-lb)
6. Tighten the radiator drain plug to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 1.0 ± 0.2 N·m (9 ± 1 in-lb)
7. Reinstall the reservoir tank.
8. Mount the special tool LLC changer (MB991870) to the reservoir tank and fill with coolant.
Recommended antifreeze: MITSUBISHI MOTORS GENUINE SUPER LONG LIFE COOLANT PREMIUM or equivalent
Total coolant capacity: approximately 8.8 dm3 (9.3 qt)
[Including reservoir tank 0.8 dm3 (0.85 qt)]
cautionMitsubishi Motors Genuine Super Long Life Coolant Premium has been adjusted to a concentration of 50%, so use as-is without diluting it with water.
9. Fully tighten the radiator cap.
10. Turn the A/C switch to OFF position.
11. Perform Idle Continuous Mode (Refer to General Information - Continuous Idling Mode CONTINUOUS IDLING MODE).
12. Warm up until the cooling fan operates.
13. Rev the engine several times and then stop the engine and check for any coolant leaks (Refer to General Information - Continuous Idling Mode - CONTINUOUS IDLING MODE).
cautionDo not fill with coolant above the MAX line in the reservoir tank.
14. With the engine cooled, remove the radiator cap and refill to the “MAX” line of the reservoir tank with coolant.
15. Fully tighten the radiator cap.
16. Install the engine room under cover front A, B (Refer to Exterior - Under Cover Removal and Installation Removal and Installation).
