DTC P04CD-00: Fuel Fill Door Open Request Sensor/Switch Stuck On
 
 
 
 
CIRCUIT OPERATION
  • The ECM connector terminal number 86 sends a current of electricity to the fuel filler opener switch connector terminal number 7.
  • Pressing the fuel filler opener switch grounds the voltage from the ECM.
 
 
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The ECM checks that the fuel filler opener switch is pressed through changes in voltage to the fuel filler opener switch.
 
 
DTC SET CONDITIONS
Check Conditions
  • Power supply mode of electric motor switch is ON.
  • 12V battery positive voltage is more than10.0 volts and is less than 16.5 volts.
Judgment Criterion
  • Fuel filler opener switch circuit voltage is 1 volt or less for 13.5 minutes.
 
 
FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
Indicates "REFUELING SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" on the information screen in the multi-information display.
 
 
OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN
None.
 
 
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are:)
  • Fuel filler opener switch failed.
  • Open or shorted fuel filler opener switch circuit, harness damage or loose connector contact.
  • ECM failed.
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992744: Vehicle communication interface-Lite (V.C.I.-Lite)
  • MB992745: V.C.I.-Lite main harness A
  • MB992747: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable short
  • MB992748: V.C.I.-Lite USB cable long
1.STEP 1. Check fuel filler opener switch itself.
Check fuel filler opener switch itself (Refer to BODY EXTERIOR, DOORS, ROOF & VEHICLE SECURITY, Door & Lock – Removal and Installation – Fuel filler Lid – Fuel Filler Lid Inspection FUEL FILLER LID INSPECTION).
Q: Is the check result normal?
Replace the fuel filler opener switch (Refer to BODY EXTERIOR, DOORS, ROOF & VEHICLE SECURITY, Door & Lock – Removal and Installation – Fuel filler Lid Opener Switch FUEL FILLER LID OPENER SWITCH REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION).
 
2.STEP 2. Check harness between fuel filler opener switch connector terminal number 7 and ECM connector terminal number 86.
Check output line for open/short circuit and damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.
 
3.STEP 3. Check harness between fuel filler opener switch connector terminal number 5 and ground.
Check ground line for open/short circuit and damage.
Q: Is the check result normal?
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.
 
4.STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE), DTC recheck after erasing DTC.
After erasing the DTC, check again to see if the DTC is set again.
(1) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to erase the DTC.
(2) Turn OFF the power supply mode of the electric motor switch.
(3) Turn ON the power supply mode of the electric motor switch.
(4) Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III SE) to recheck the DTC.
