Diagnosis Procedure
1.CHECK DTC PRIORITY
If DTC P0087 is displayed with other DTC, first perform the trouble diagnosis for other DTC.
Is applicable DTC detected?
Perform the diagnosis of the applicable. DTC Index
.
 
2.CHECK FUEL LEVEL
Check that the fuel level is enough.
Is there 1/8 or more fuel?
.
 
3.REFUEL THE VEHICLE
  1. Refuel to over 1/8 of full
  2. Start the engine and keep the engine speed at 3,000 rpm for 30 seconds.
    noteFor best results, warm up the engine until “COOLAN TEMP/S” on “DATA MONITOR” mode of “ENGINE” reaches at least 70°C (158°F).
  3. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
  4. Turn ignition switch ON.
  5. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
  6. Turn ignition switch ON.
  7. Erase the DTC.
  8. Start the engine and let it idle at least 60 seconds.
  9. Perform DTC confirmation procedure again. Refer to DTC Description.
Is DTC P0087 detected?

4.BLEED THE FUEL LINE
  1. Start the engine, and let the engine run at idle at least for 10 minutes.
  2. Perform DTC confirmation procedure of DTC P0087.
Is 1st trip DTC detected?

5.CHECK LOW FUEL PRESSURE
Check low fuel pressure. Refer to Work ProcedureWork Flow.
Is inspection result normal?
.
Check low fuel pressure system. Refer to Diagnosis ProcedureDTC Diagnosis Procedure.
 
6.CHECK LOW PRESSURE FUEL LINE FOR INTERNAL LEAKAGE
  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
  2. Turn ignition switch ON.
  3. Check the following value 30 minutes after turning the ignition switch ON.
    Low fuel pressure: 206 kPa (2.1 bar, 2.2 kgf/cm2, 30 psi) or more
Is inspection result normal?

Replace “fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump”. Refer to Removal and Installation.
 
7.CHECK HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP
Check high pressure fuel pump. Refer to Component Inspection.
Is inspection result normal?
.
Repair or replace the error-detected parts.
 
8.CHECK HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP LIFTER
Check high pressure fuel pump lifter. Refer to Removal and Installation.
Does the lifter top surface have scratches and/or dents?
Replace the error-detected parts.

9.CHECK LOW PRESSURE FUEL LINE FOR INTERNAL LEAKAGE
  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
  2. Connect fuel pressure gauge. Refer to Work ProcedureWork Flow.
  3. Turn ignition switch ON.
  4. Check the following value 30 minutes after turning the ignition switch ON.
    Low fuel pressure: 206 kPa (2.1 bar, 2.2 kgf/cm2, 30 psi) or more
Is inspection result normal?
INSPECTION END
Replace “fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump”. Refer to Removal and Installation.
