DTC C2336 Shift position not determined

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

OPERATION
The BSW-ECU (master) communicates with the TCM via the gateway-ECU and CAN bus lines.

CHECK CONDITION
Ignition switch is in the ON position.

DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION AND JUDGMENT CRITERIA
When the BSW-ECU (master) receives an invalid selector lever position signal from the TCM for at least 1.5 seconds, the ECU sets DTC C2336.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The transmission system fails
  • The BSW-ECU (master) may be defective

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Check the scan tool (M.U.T.-III) DTC for other systems.
Check if DTC P0705 is set in the TCM.
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III) ."
  • Check if DTC P0705 is set in the TCM.(Refer to GROUP 23A - Troubleshooting - Diagnostic trouble Code chart ).
Is the DTC set?
Diagnose the TCM.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III) other system data list
  • Check the input signal (Refer to GROUP 23A - Data list Reference table ).

Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Follow the Diagnostic trouble Code procedure "P0705" (Refer to GROUP 23A - Troubleshooting - Diagnostic trouble Code Procedures - DTC P0705: Malfunction of Inhibitor Switch ).

STEP 3. Check whether the DTC is set again.
Check again if the DTC is set in the BSW-ECU (master).
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position.
(3) Check if the DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the BSW-ECU (master).
Intermittent malfunction is suspected (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
