DTC P071C: Malfunction of Ds position switch (stuck OFF) <Vehicles without paddle shift>
 
 
 
 
DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
  • P071B: The TCM detects that the Ds position switch is stuck to ON.
  • P071C: The TCM detects that the Ds position switch is stuck to OFF.
 
 
DESCRIPTIONS OF MONITOR METHODS <P0 71B>
  • The Ds position switch remains ON for 5 seconds when the transmission range switch is at "P", "R", or "N".
 
 
MONITOR EXECUTION <P071B>
  • Voltage of battery: 9 volts or more.
  • Voltage of battery: 16 volts or less.
  • Transmission range switch position: P, R or N
 
 
MONITOR EXECUTION CONDITIONS (OTHER MONITOR AND SENSOR) <P071B>
Other Monitor (There is no temporary DTC set in memory for the item monitored below)
  • Not applicable
Sensor (The sensor below is determined to be normal)

Check Conditions
  • Voltage of battery: 9 volts or more.
  • Voltage of battery: 16 volts or less.
Judgment Criteria
  • Ds position switch (when the transmission range switch is at "P", "R", or "N"): ON (5 seconds).
 
 
OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN <P071B>
Transmission range: D (Drive the vehicle for 10 seconds or more while the accelerator opening angle is 20% or more)

 
 
DESCRIPTIONS OF MONITOR METHODS <P071C>
  • The Ds position switch remains OFF for 5 seconds when the transmission range switch is at "L".
 
 
MONITOR EXECUTION <P071C>
  • Voltage of battery: 9 volts or more.
  • Voltage of battery: 16 volts or less.
  • Transmission range switch position: L
  • After the normal input of Ds range is performed.
 
 
MONITOR EXECUTION CONDITIONS (OTHER MONITOR AND SENSOR) <P071C>

Transmission range: D (Drive the vehicle for 10 seconds or more while the accelerator opening angle is 20% or more)
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of selector lever assembly (Ds position switch)
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
  • Malfunction of TCM
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. M.U.T.-III data list
Item 58: Ds switch
OK: Turns ON when the selector lever is at "Ds" or "L".
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction
Go to Step 2.
 
STEP 2. Ds position switch single unit check
Refer to .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the selector lever assembly.
 
STEP 3. Check for short to ground in INHS line between the TCM connector and the selector lever assembly (Ds position switch) connector
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
 
STEP 4. Check for open circuit in ground line between the selector lever assembly (Ds position switch) connector and body ground.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
 
STEP 5. Symptom recheck after erasing diagnostic trouble code
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction
Replace TCM.
