DTC C2203: VIN not recorded

caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect DTC may be stored. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN Bus Line Diagnostic Flow ).
  • When other DTC for ASC-ECU is stored, troubleshoot that DTC first.
  • Whenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the CAN bus lines are normal.
  • When the hydraulic unit (integrated with ASC-ECU) is replaced, always carry out the calibration of the steering wheel sensor, the G and yaw rate sensor and brake fluid pressure sensor (Refer to , and ).

OPERATION
ASC-ECU receives vehicle information from the engine control module and stores it.

DTC SET CONDITIONS
This DTC is stored when ASC-ECU cannot receive the vehicle information from the engine control module.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of the CAN bus
  • Engine control module malfunction
  • ASC-ECU malfunction
  • When the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position for the first time after the ASC-ECU is replaced.

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Use scan tool to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ). On completion, go to Step 2.

STEP 2. DTC recheck after resetting CAN bus lines
(1) Ignition switch "LOCK" (OFF)
(2) Ignition switch "ON"
Is DTC C2203 stored?
Go to Step 3.
The procedure is complete.

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III DTC
Check that the engine control module stores a DTC.
Is any DTC stored?
Troubleshoot the engine control module DTC (Refer to GROUP 13A - Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart <2.0L Engine> or GROUP 13C - Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart <2.4L Engine>), and then go to Step 5.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check whether the DTC is stored again.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Ignition switch: "LOCK" (OFF) position
(3) Ignition switch: "ON" position
Is DTC C2203 stored?
Replace the hydraulic unit (integrated with ASC-ECU) (Refer to ), and then go to Step 5.
If a trouble is solved, it is determined that there is an intermittent malfunction such as poor engaged connector(s) or open circuit (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).

STEP 5. Check whether the DTC is stored again.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Ignition switch: "LOCK" (OFF) position
(3) Ignition switch: "ON" position
Is DTC C2203 stored?
Return to Step 1.
