DTC U1417: Wrong coding data received
 
 
 
 
DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
TCM checks that the coding information is normal.
 
 
JUDGMENT CRITERIA
The ETACS-ECU coding information about whether the AWD-ECU is mounted or not is incorrect.
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of the CAN bus line
  • ETACS-ECU coding information is abnormal
  • ETACS-ECU failure or improper assembly
  • Malfunction of TCM
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, diagnose the CAN bus line.
Use the scan tool MB991958 to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus lines. (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting .)
 
STEP 2. Use scan tool MB991958 to confirm a diagnostic trouble code of other systems.
Check if the ETACS-ECU sets a diagnostic trouble code.
Is the diagnostic trouble code set?
Diagnose the ETACS-ECU. (Refer to GROUP 54A - Troubleshooting )
Go to Step 3.
 
STEP 3. ETACS-ECU coding data check
Using scan tool MB991958, check if any abnormality is present in the coding data below which is stored in the ETACS-ECU.
Final drive
  • OK <FWD vehicles>: Front Drive
  • OK <AWD vehicles>: 4WD FF Base
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the coding data. If repair is impossible, replace the ETACS-ECU.
 
STEP 4. Diagnostic trouble code recheck
Check again if the diagnostic trouble code is set to TCM.
(1) Erase the diagnostic trouble code.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK (OFF)" position to the "ON" position.
(3) Check if the diagnostic trouble code is set.
Is the diagnostic trouble code set?
Replace the TCM.
Intermittent malfunction.
