INSPECTION PROCEDURE 5: The inside/outside air changeover is impossible.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If the air recirculation cannot be changed by using the inside air/outside air changeover switch, the inside air/outside air changeover motor system may be faulty.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of the outside/inside air selection damper control motor
  • The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector
  • Malfunction of the heater controller assembly (A/C-ECU)

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB991223: Harness Set
  • MB992006: Extra Fine Probe
STEP 1. Check the operation of the heater control panel assembly (A/C-ECU).
Check that the A/C switch, rear window defogger switch and air volume control switch can operate.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Refer to inspection procedure 11 "Heater control panel assembly (A/C-ECU) power supply system" .

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the heater controller assembly (A/C-ECU) DTC is set.
Check that the DTC related to the heater controller assembly (A/C-ECU) is not set.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the electric motor switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ".
(2) Turn the electric motor switch from OFF position to ON position.
(3) Check whether the DTC is set.
(4) Turn the electric motor switch to the OFF position.
Is the DTC set?
Carry out the DTC procedures (Refer to ).
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. The heater controller assembly (A/C-ECU) using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check actuator test.
Carry out the actuator test (Refer to ).
Item No.5: In/out select damper (Select "position reset").
Does the blower motor work normally?
This diagnosis is complete.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check of open circuit in FA, FA' FB and FB' line between outside/inside air selection damper control motor connector and heater control panel assembly (A/C-ECU) connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 5. Replace the air outside/inside air circulation switching damper motor (Refer to ), and then recheck the trouble symptom.
Check to see that the outside air/inside air circulation switching damper motor operates normally.
noteWhenever the motor is replaced, initialize the motor position by using the actuator test.
Is the check result normal?
This diagnosis is complete.
Replace the heater controller assembly (A/C-ECU) (Refer to ).
