DTC B254A: Steering angle sensor fault

DTC SET CONDITION
When the camera-ECU receives any of the following unfeasible values from the steering wheel sensor, DTC No. B254A will be set:
  • The steering wheel sensor cannot recognize any steering wheel angle for at least 2.5 seconds.
  • The ECU receives the signal, which informs of an internal malfunction or incomplete initialization, from the steering wheel sensor for at least 2.5 seconds.
note"Thunder" mark is displayed on the vehicle icon when DTC No. B254A is set.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The steering wheel sensor (column switch assembly) may be defective
  • The steering wheel sensor has not learned the neutral point of the steering wheel.
  • The camera-ECU may be defective
  • The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.
Use the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ).

STEP 2. Check the steering wheel sensor.
Calibrate the steering wheel sensor (teach-in a neutral position). (Refer to GROUP 35C - Steering wheel sensor calibration .)
Has the calibration been completed successfully?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the steering wheel sensor (column switch assembly) .

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check data list.
Using the camera-ECU data list, check the steering wheel status.

Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the steering wheel sensor (column switch assembly) . Then go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Recheck for DTC.
Check again if the DTC is set in the camera-ECU.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Press the electric motor switch to turn the power supply mode from "OFF" to "ON."
(3) Check if DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace the camera-ECU (Refer to ).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
