Inspection Procedure A-11: Hazard warning lights do not flash when power liftgate works automatically.
 
 
cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.
 
 
 
 
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
The power liftgate control unit or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Damaged power liftgate control unit
  • Malfunction of ETACS-ECU
 
 
DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Hazard warning light check
Check that the hazard warning light lights up when the hazard warning light switch is operated.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Refer to GROUP 54A - Inspection Procedure: Hazard Warning Light Does Not Illuminate .
 
STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.

cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the electric motor switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the electric motor switch to ON.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Turn the electric motor switch to OFF.
Is the CAN bus normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the CAN bus line. (Refer to GROUP 54C, Diagnosis .)
 
STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the other system diagnostic trouble code.
Check if any DTC is set in the ETACS-ECU.

cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the electric motor switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the electric motor switch to ON.
(3) Check if DTC is set.
(4) Turn the electric motor switch to OFF.
Is the DTC set?
Refer to GROUP 54A - Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart .
Go to Step 4.
 
STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check actuator test
Perform the actuator test, and check that the hazard warning light lights up.
  • Item 5: Hazard answer back request
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Go to Step 5.
 
STEP 5. System retest
Check whether hazard warning lights flash when the power liftgate is operated.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction .)
Replace the power liftgate control unit.
 
STEP 6. System retest
Check whether hazard warning lights flash when the power liftgate is operated.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction .)
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
