DTC U0141 ETACS CAN timeout

caution
  • If DTC U0141 is set, be sure to diagnose the CAN bus line.
  • When replacing the ECU, always check that the communication circuit is normal.

DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
If the signal from ETACS-ECU cannot be received, the gateway-ECU sets DTC U0141.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT
With the ignition switch is at "ON" position, DTC U1190 is not set, if the communication with ETACS-ECU cannot be established for 2500 ms or more, the gateway-ECU determines that a problem has occurred.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Malfunction of CAN bus line
  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU power supply circuit
  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
  • Malfunction of the combination meter power supply circuit
  • Malfunction of the combination meter
  • Malfunction of the gateway-ECU

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
(1) Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to ).

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the EPS-ECU diagnostic trouble code
Check whether an ETACS "time-out" related DTC is set in other ECUs.
Is the DTC set?
Go to Step 3.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 3. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set in the gateway-ECU.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position.
(3) Check if DTC is set.
Is the DTC set?
Replace ETACS-ECU (Refer to GROUP 54A, ETACS - Removal and Installation ).
A poor connection, open circuit or other intermittent malfunction is present in the CAN bus lines between the ETACS-ECU and the gateway-ECU (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points ).

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), read the ETACS-ECU diagnostic trouble code
Check if a DTC U0155 is set in the ETACS-ECU.
Is the DTC set?
Troubleshoot the ETACS-ECU. Refer to GROUP 54A - Diagnostic trouble code chart ).
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5.
Replace gateway-ECU (Refer to <From 22 Model year>).
A poor connection, open circuit or other intermittent malfunction is present in the CAN bus lines between the ETACS-ECU and the gateway-ECU (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points ).
