DTC U0159: CAMERA CAN timeout <Vehicles with multi around monitor>

caution
  • If DTC U0159 is set in the multivision display, always diagnose the CAN bus lines.
  • Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the communication circuit is normal.
noteWhen the DTCs relating to the CAN communication error are set, make sure of the vehicle equipment. When the vehicle is not equipped with the system the multivision display communicates to, the DTC is always set. This is not abnormal.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT
The multivision display receives camera control system-related signals from the camera-ECU via CAN bus lines. If the display unit cannot receive the necessary signals, DTC U0159 will be set.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
Current trouble
  • Connector(s) or wiring harness in the CAN bus lines between the camera-ECU and the multivision display, the power supply system to the camera-ECU, the camera-ECU itself, or the multivision display may be defective.
Past trouble
  • Carry out diagnosis with particular emphasis on connector(s) or wiring harness in the CAN bus lines between the camera-ECU and the multivision display, and the power supply system to the camera-ECU. For diagnostic procedures, refer to "How to cope with past trouble" (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points ).
noteFor a past trouble, you may not find it by the scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) CAN bus diagnostics even if there is any failure in CAN bus lines. In this case, refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points . and check the CAN bus lines. You can narrow down the possible cause of the trouble by referring to the DTC, which is set regarding the CAN communication-linked ECUs (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN Bus Line Diagnostic Flow ).

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
  • The camera-ECU may be defective
  • The multivision display may be defective

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose CAN bus line.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting - CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ).

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the other system DTC is set.
Check whether the multi around monitor DTCs are set or not.
Is the DTC set?
Diagnose the multi around monitor troubleshooting (Refer to ).
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the other system DTC is set.
Check if a DTC, which relates to CAN communication-linked systems below, is set.
  • Camera-ECU
    • DTC U0159: CAMERA CAN timeout
Is the DTC set?
Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 5.

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set again.
Check again if the DTC is set in the multivision display.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to "ON" position.
(3) Check the DTC.
Is the DTC set?
Replace camera-ECU.
A poor connection, open circuit or other intermittent malfunction is present in the CAN bus lines between the camera-ECU and the multivision display (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

STEP 5.
Replace multivision display (Refer to ).
A poor connection, open circuit or other intermittent malfunction is present in the CAN bus lines between the camera-ECU and the multivision display (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
