cautionBefore replacing the hazard warning light switch, be sure to check that the power supply circuit, ground circuit, and communication circuit are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the front seat belt reminder function does not work normally, the front seat belt switch input circuit, or the hazard warning light switch may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of the seat belt switch (passenger’s side)
  • Malfunction of the hazard warning light switch
  • Malfunction of the combination meter
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB991223: Harness Set
  • MB992006: Extra Fine Probe
STEP 1. Voltage measurement at the combination meter connector
(1) Disconnect the combination meter connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from LOCK (OFF) position to ON position.
(3) Check the voltage between the combination meter connector terminal BWLP and body ground.
OK: Battery positive voltage
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Voltage measurement at the hazard warning light switch connector
(1) Disconnect the hazard warning light switch connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from LOCK (OFF) position to ON position.
(3) Check the voltage between the hazard warning light switch connector terminal IG+ and body ground.
OK: Battery positive voltage
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness of short, open to power supply circuit in between the hazard warning light switch connector and ETACS-ECU connector.

STEP 3. Check of short, open circuit in BWLP line between the combination meter connector and the hazard warning light switch connector.
Is the check result normal?
Replace the hazard warning light switch (Refer to ).
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the other system DTC.
Check if the DTC is set in the SRS-ECU.
Is the DTC set?
Diagnose the SRS-ECU (Refer to GROUP 52B - Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart ).
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Check the seat belt switch.
Refer to .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Replace the seat belt switch.

STEP 6. Retest the system.
The front seat belt reminder function should work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the combination meter (Refer to GROUP 54A - Combination Meter ).
