DTC U0417 EPB (CAN Message)

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the communication circuit is normal.

OPERATION
The ASC-ECU communicates with the electric parking brake ECU via CAN bus lines.

DTC SET CONDITIONS
The ASC-ECU will set the DTC when any of the following conditions is satisfied:
  • The system receives an implausible signal from the electric parking brake ECU.
  • The electric parking brake actuator fails.
  • The emergency brake does not work as the ASC system fails.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • CAN bus lines are abnormal (External noise interference)
  • Electric parking brake system fails
  • ASC system fails

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line.
Use scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ).

STEP 2. Check whether the DTC is set again.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
Is DTC U0417 set?
Replace the electric parking brake ECU (Refer to GROUP 36 - Electric Parking Brake ECU ) and then go to Step 3.
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

STEP 3. Check whether the DTC is set again.
(1) Erase the DTC.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
Is DTC U0417 set?
Replace the hydraulic unit assembly (integrated with ASC-ECU) (Refer to ).
This diagnosis is complete.
