INSPECTION PROCEDURE 2: Shifting the S-AWC Drive Mode-selector Does not Change the Mode.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the drive mode cannot be switched by pushing the S-AWC drive mode-selector, the S-AWC drive mode-selector, the wiring harness wires between the AWC-ECU and the S-AWC drive mode-selector, the wiring harness wire in the ground circuit for the S-AWC drive mode-selector, the AWC-ECU or the combination meter may have a problem.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Damaged wiring harness and connectors
  • Malfunction of S-AWC drive mode-selector
  • AWC-ECU malfunction
  • Malfunction of combination meter

DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
  • MB992006: Extra fine probe
STEP 1. Scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) data list.
Check the following data list (Refer to ).
  • Item No.1: AWC control mode
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Follow combination meter trouble symptom procedure 9 "The combination meter light does not illuminate normally or the multi-information display is not displayed normally."
Refer to GROUP 54A - Combination Meter .
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair it.

STEP 3. Resistance measurement between the S-AWC drive mode-selector connector terminals
(1) Remove the S-AWC drive mode-selector (Refer to GROUP 52A - Shift Lever Panel ).
(2) Measure the resistance between the terminals (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the S-AWC drive mode-selector (Refer to GROUP 52A - Shift Lever Panel ).

STEP 4. Wiring harness check
(1) Check the wiring harness between the AWC-ECU connector (terminal SW-1) and the S-AWC drive mode-selector connector.
(2) Check the connector(s) or terminal(s) or wiring harness above for damage or other problem.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector(s) or terminal(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 5. Resistance measurement at the S-AWC drive mode-selector connector
(1) Disconnect the S-AWC drive mode-selector connector.
(2) Measure the resistance between the S-AWC drive mode-selector wiring harness side connector terminal No. 6 and the body ground.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair the connector(s) or terminal(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. Retest the system.
Does the malfunction occur again?
Replace the AWC-ECU (Refer to .)
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
