Inspection Procedure 9: The combination meter light does not illuminate normally or the multi-information display is not displayed normally.

cautionBefore replacing the combination meter, be sure to check that the power supply circuit, ground circuit, and communication circuit are normal.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
When the signal from each ECU is received via the CAN communication, the combination meter illuminates the corresponding display light or warning light, or has the multi-information display to display corresponding information.
If the lights do not illuminate or the multi-information display does not display normally, the wiring harness and connector(s) in the CAN bus lines, each ECU (that sends a signal) or the combination meter may have a problem.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
  • The combination meter may be defective
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose CAN bus line.
(1)
cautionTo prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE).
Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE). Refer to "How to connect the Scan Tool (M.U.T.-IIISE) ."
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Diagnose the CAN bus line.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting - CAN Bus Diagnostics Table ).

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set.
Check again if the DTC is set in the combination meter.
Is the DTC set?
Refer to .
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the other system DTC is set.
Check again if the DTC is set in the engine control module, TCM, AWC-ECU <AWD>, ASC-ECU, electric parking brake ECU <Vehicles with electric parking brake>, ACC/FCM-ECU <Vehicles with ACC>, EPS-ECU, KOS&OSS-ECU <Vehicles with KOS>, SRS-ECU, ETACS-ECU, A/C controller assembly , FCM/LDW/AHB-ECU <Vehicles with FCM> and BSW-ECU.
Is the DTC set in the any of the above?
: Troubleshoot the engine. Refer to GROUP 13A - Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart .
: Troubleshoot the ACC. Refer to GROUP 17 - Troubleshooting .
: Troubleshoot the CVT. Refer to GROUP 23A - Diagnostic trouble code chart .
: Troubleshoot the AWD. Refer to GROUP 23A - Troubleshooting .
: Troubleshoot the ASC. Refer to GROUP 35C - Troubleshooting .
: Troubleshoot the Electric parking brake. Refer to GROUP 36 - Troubleshooting .
: Troubleshoot the EPS. Refer to GROUP 37 - Troubleshooting .
: Troubleshoot the KOS/OSS. Refer to GROUP 42B - Troubleshooting .
: Troubleshoot the SRS. Refer to GROUP 52B - Troubleshooting .
: Troubleshoot the ETACS-ECU. Refer to .
: Troubleshoot the FCM, LDW and automatic high beam system, refer to .
: Troubleshoot the BSW/RCTA. Refer to .
: Troubleshoot the A/C. Refer to GROUP 55 - Troubleshooting .
: Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check special function.
Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), select "Test" from the special function of the combination meter. Execute the following item to check the liquid crystal display.
  • Item 3: LCD(AUTO)
  • Item 7: Illumination (AUTO)
  • Item 9: Indicator (AUTO)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the combination meter.

STEP 5. Retest the system.
Check that combination meter illumination function should work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The procedure is complete. (If no malfunctions are found in all steps, an intermittent malfunction is suspected. Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the combination meter.
