Inspection Procedure 15: Vehicle power cannot be turned "OFF" when the shift position is in P (Power supply mode "ON" to "ACC" is possible).

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the ground circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When the shift position is judged to be in the P position based on the input of P range detection switch, KOS&OSS-ECU can turn "OFF" the vehicle power supply. If the vehicle power cannot be turned OFF (power supply mode "ON" to "ACC" is possible) when the shift is in P position, the P range detection switch or KOS&OSS-ECU may have a problem.
If you cannot turn off the power supply, you may turn it off by an emergency stop of engine switch while keeping your foot on the brake pedal. The emergency stop of engine switch is pushing the engine switch 3 times in one second. If you cannot turn off the power supply, the door entry function or keyless entry function will not work. If the battery has the voltage greater than or equal to the predetermined voltage, the emergency key may lock each door and the liftgate. Pay attention to this case because the steering lock may not be locked.
When leaving the vehicle, move the shift lever to the P-position, and apply the parking brake surely.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Damaged wiring harness or connector (short to ground in PDSW line)
  • Malfunction of selector lever assembly (ON seizure of P range detection switch)
  • Malfunction of KOS&OSS-ECU

DIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Battery check
Perform the battery test to check the battery status (Refer to GROUP 54A - Battery ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Perform inspection procedure 18: Vehicle power cannot be turned "OFF" (Refer to ).

STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the DTC.
Check if the DTC is set in the KOS&OSS-ECU.
Is the DTC set?
Refer to DTC chart .
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check of short to ground in PDSW line between selector lever assembly connector and KOS&OSS-ECU connector.
noteBecause the conformity cannot be determined even when the digital tester is used to measure the voltage of PDSW line between the selector lever assembly connector and KOS&OSS-ECU connector, be sure to use the oscilloscope (Outputs the sawtooth waveform of 0 to 5 volts with intervals of 10 ms.).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 4. Check of selector lever assembly (P range detection switch).
Disconnect the selector lever assembly connector, and check the continuity at the equipment side.

Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the selector lever assembly (Refer to GROUP 23A - Transaxle Control ).

STEP 5. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the data list
Check the KOS&OSS-ECU data list.
  • Operate the selector lever.

Perform inspection procedure 18: Vehicle power cannot be turned "OFF" (Refer to ).
Replace the KOS&OSS-ECU and register the ID codes (Refer to ).
